How to Fix MW2 Campaign ‘Steam Connection Timed Out’ Error

Steam should now be working for everyone. It may prompt you do an additional download before you're able to launch it properly.

To fix the ‘Steam Connection Timed Out’ Error on Steam, you need to restart the Steam Client and relaunch it until you can download the necessary Content Packs for MW2.

To do this, follow these steps:

  • Right-Click on the Steam App Icon at the bottom of your screen.
  • Choose “Exit Steam.”
  • Once Steam has completely closed, relaunch the program.

How to Fix ‘Display Name Not Allowed’ on Steam

If you keep seeing the “Change Activision ID” screen when launching Modern Warfare 2, then your best bet is to restart the game, and it might not appear the next time you launch it.

This error prompts players to change their display name before entering MW2. Here is what it says:

“Your current display name is not allowed. Please choose a new Activision Account name. Changes to your Activision account require a restart.”

How to Fix MW2 Campaign Xbox ‘You Are Too Early’ Error

Before launching MW2, you need to make sure that Campaign 1 and Campaign 2 are both fully downloaded and properly installed. If not you may keep experiencing issues.

To fix the MW2 “Xbox Too Early” Errors, you must ensure that the Campaign file has been properly installed from the Manage Game and Add Ons screen.

To do this, follow these steps:

  • Open the “Manage Game and Add Ons” screen.
  • Choose the pre-load for “Modern Warfare 2” from the list of options.
  • There won’t be any add-ons, but you should see options for the following:
    • Campaign
    • Multiplayer
    • Co-op
