How to Fix Lag in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

Lag and Call of Duty titles – is there a more iconic duo? Thankfully, there are a few ways to fix lag in Black Ops Cold War.

If you’re finding that you or others around you are lagging in Black Ops Cold War, it’s not the end of the world. Try not to get too stressed, as there are fixes for the issue.

A new blog by Activision works to help players affected by lag in Black Ops Cold War. The support page indicates that there are three main types of lag that players may experience.

  • Rubber banding – an issue where your character keeps springing back to where they were a few seconds earlier.
  • Stuttering – an effect that freezes your character before skipping them ahead
  • Hit marker delays – where your bullets appear to have no impact on an enemy, but the opposing player can still kill you

Too much lag can also be the reason that a player gets booted from game, and it’s incredibly frustrating to encounter.

Here are the best ways to fix lag in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

How to Fix Lag in Black Ops Cold War

Activision has shared the following tips to help Black Ops Cold War players fix the lag that’s troubling them:

Using an Ethernet Cable

First up, the publisher suggests playing on a wired connection. Whether you’re a console or PC gamer, using an ethernet cable is a sure-fire way to fix intermittent lag issues.

Wi-Fi connections may be convenient, but they can often stutter at just the wrong moment and cause lag in online games. If you cannot run an ethernet cable from your router, consider using a Powerline adapter in your nearest plug socket.

You can also move the router closer to your device of choice (or vice versa). This way, you’re more likely to keep the connection, should you absolutely need to stay wireless.

Quality of Service

Some routers also come with a Quality of Service (QoS) feature, enabling users to choose their internet connection priorities. If you have one of these, make sure your console or PC is a top priority.

Routers also benefit from occasional resets. Unplugging your router for 30 seconds before plugging it back in is a great way to give yourself that extra boost.

Ensure Other Factors Aren’t Throttling Your Bandwidth

Although most online games do not consume much bandwidth, you could still be lagging due to external sources. If you or others in your household are streaming music, video, or downloading content, these factors will certainly affect your gameplay.

It’s also worth considering that if you’re streaming to an audience on Twitch, YouTube, Facebook, you’ll be consuming more bandwidth than usual. If you cannot maintain this without causing lag spikes, it’s either time to upload recorded content or upgrade your internet.

Upgrade Your Internet Plan

If not having enough bandwidth does turn out to be your issue, you can always upgrade your plan with your ISP. It’s not an ideal solution, but consider doing so around Black Friday where the deals are usually at their best.

With more bandwidth to play with, you’re able to do more with your internet. And it’ll certainly help when it comes to streaming during gameplay.

Activision Support’s blog is relatively helpful for fixing the Black Ops Cold War lag, but it might not be the solution everyone is looking for. Players should ensure that they’re always playing Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War at the best settings to improve performance in general.

It’s possible that some lag could be caused by Activision’s servers, which are sure to improve over time. Right now, the publisher is probably working hard to fix the Black Ops Cold War error codes that players are experiencing.

On top of that, some players are even reporting that they seem to be in debt, upon opening the game. It seems that some Black Ops Cold War players have negative COD Points balances after buying the new title.
