Ever since launch, some users have been reporting issues with their PS5 consoles. Here's how to fix a PlayStation 5 that's bricked or won't turn on.

If you're having issues with your PS5, you're not the only one. In fact, due to an error somewhere down the line, PlayStation 5 consoles are getting bricked and not turning on altogether.

Thankfully, there's a way to fix the bricked PlayStation 5 - at least temporarily. Hopefully, Sony will be working on a fix to push out to all consoles in a future update.

Despite the PS5's dominant console launch, the next-gen console is no good to anyone in this state. In the meantime, here's what to do to get your bricked PS5 working again.

How to Avoid PS5 Bricking Issue

After many identical reports of PlayStation 5 systems refusing to turn on, players are pushing for a solution to their problems. Now, it seems that one is finally here.

First of all, we know that the PS5 Rest Mode is bricking consoles. Even if you're not encountering any issues, we recommend turning off the PS5 Rest Mode right now.

Remarkably, it appears that Black Ops Cold War is bricking consoles too, and even Xbox devices are encountering the issue. We're not certain how Treyarch is managing it, but their best-selling title is taking down next-gen consoles left and right.

Fixing a Bricked PS5

According to several users online, there is a fix for the PS5 bricking issue. Despite devices refusing to power on, it appears that this fix can at least get the system operational again.

To fix a bricked PS5, make sure to follow these steps exactly:

  1. Unplug the console and plug it back in
  2. Then quickly hold the power button for 15 seconds
  3. This will perform a full hardware reboot, and a "rebuilding storage" warning will appear
  4. Enjoy a functional PS5!

In case these steps don't work for you, we recommend repeating the process after leaving the console unplugged completely. After a while with no power, the PS5 should clear its memory, and you can fix any Rest Mode issues.

This might be the first time we've ever seen a game contribute to breaking a console so consistently. We'd recommend that any Black Ops Cold War owners who are experiencing crashes simply leave the game alone for the time being.

Perhaps the major Black Ops Cold War Season 1 update will help fix stability across all platforms. For now, ensure you know how to turn your PS5 off when you finish playing.
