Sony has announced an updated number for the total amount of PS5 consoles sold – find out how many gamers have managed to get a next-gen PlayStation so far.
The PS5 has been extremely hard to get over the first year following its release. However, this isn’t an indication of low sales.
In fact, it is the complete opposite. The demand for consoles is higher than ever, even if the shortage of components has slowed down the production of next-gen systems.
Despite these production difficulties though, the PS5 is posting record sales numbers. What’s more, Sony has just announced the total worldwide sales for the console.

Total Worldwide PS5 Sales So Far – October 2021
It was only 3 months ago that the PS5 surpassed 10 million sales, breaking Sony sales records. And there is no sign of the sales slowing down any time soon.
Sony has just released its financial reports for Q2 2021 and the sales numbers for PS5 consoles continue to be staggering
A whopping 3.3 million PS5s were sold in the last quarter alone. This brings the grand total up to a huge 13.4 million PS5s sold by October 2021.
This means that reports suggesting that the PS5 could sell 18 million units by the end of the year could still come to fruition.
This number would definitely be higher if more consoles were readily available though. Luckily, the PS5 stock shortage could be over soon.
But how does the PS5 compare to the Xbox Series X in the sales department?
PS5 vs Xbox Series X Sales Comparison
Earlier this year, Microsoft reported record earnings, thanks to the Xbox Series X/S. However, the company has been reluctant to reveal the official sales numbers of its consoles.
Despite this, we know that the Xbox Series X is still lacking behind PlayStation. The PS5 had double the sales of the Xbox Series X in Q1 2021 and there is very little to suggest anything has changed.
In fact, an industry expert believes that 8 million Xbox Series X/S consoles have been sold so far. This is impressive, but still only 60% of the total number of PS5 consoles sold so far.
Meanwhile, if you are looking for a next-gen console, Walmart might be the right place for you. The Walmart Black Friday PS5 and Xbox Series X restock plans may have been leaked.
