Wondering exactly how many PS5 consoles have sold so far? Thanks to new statistics, we finally have the number of next-gen consoles in the wild.

Getting hold of a PS5 is a difficult task, even coming up to 6 months after release. Despite Sony churning out the hardware as fast as it can make them, sales are through the roof and gamers are getting increasingly desperate.

Unfortunately, April 2021 is a bad month for PS5 restocks in general, which isn’t helping matters. But how many PS5s have sold so far?

Thanks to a new report from Sony itself, we finally know how many PS5 sales have been made since release. But if you’re still looking for a next-gen console, here are all the retailers restocking the PS5 this week!

PS5 Total Sales So Far – April 2021

As of April 2021, the total number of PS5 sales has now surpassed 7.8 million.

This impressive figure means there are more next-gen consoles out there than we would have initially believed. However, it’s not even close to the 115.9 million PS4s currently in homes across the world.

However, the PS5 is currently the fastest-selling console in US history. Given the device’s predicted lifespan, we imagine it’ll surpass its predecessor before too long.

By the end of 2020, 4.5 million PS5s had been sold. Now, it looks as though 3.3 million further consoles were sold from January to March.

These figures help give us an idea of just how fast the next-gen units are able to be produced. And if things continue at this pace, we can expect the number of consoles on the market to easily double within the year.

On top of that, there’s a new bonus to PS Plus subscribers rumored to be coming soon, as the service reaches 47.6 million active users. And if leaks prove correct, PlayStation Home is about to make a return too…

But how do Sony’s numbers stack up to its age-old rival? Here are the stats for PS5 vs Xbox Series X – how many next-gen consoles have sold?
