New information has arrived, and we now know exactly how many digital units Black Ops Cold War sold in its debut month of November.
Despite launching on November 13, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is already seeing tremendous success. It appears that a large percentage of the game's player base is also digital, according to new market research from online analysts.
In November 2020, SuperData is reporting the most successful month for digital games ever. Over the course of the month, digital game revenue surpassed a whopping $11.5 billion.
But with such tremendous success, how many units did Black Ops Cold War manage to sell?
Black Ops Cold War Digital Sales in November
It's important to realize firstly that the PS5 Digital Edition and Xbox Series S are two newly-released consoles, lacking a disc drive. There were also a lot of gamers last month looking for a major title to play on their new device.
It should come as no surprise, perhaps, that console earnings were up 24% over November 2019. And with many parts of the world restricted by the global pandemic, more people are likely relying on digital games over physical ones.
In total, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War sold 5.7 million digital copies in November. When comparing this figure to that of Treyarch's previous series entry, Black Ops 4, this is a 7% rise over the older title.
According to SuperData, this new rise saw a boost due to the ongoing success of Warzone. Notably, though, Warzone had 2.7 times the number of players that Cold War saw in November.
Warzone Is Still the Most Popular Call of Duty Experience
It seems that Warzone is still the most popular Call of Duty experience, as of November. This is due to the game's established community and free-to-play nature.
These statistics shouldn't be too much of a shock, given Warzone's 85 million-strong player base. What's more, Cold War was only available from almost halfway through the month.
The report indicates that Warzone will likely be the most common way that players experience the Call of Duty franchise in the near future. However, Black Ops Cold War was, in fact, the highest-grossing console title of the month altogether.
Modern Warfare, and subsequently Warzone, came in at number 9. When it comes to the PC charts, Cold War and Modern Warfare took places 6 and 10, respectively.
As though celebrating these achievements, Black Ops Cold War is releasing free Christmas cosmetics this holiday season. Here's how to claim your free Winter bundle.
Players can also unlock the free mid-season weapons early in Black Ops Cold War. However, these new challenges involve playing Warzone, which is making Cold War fans noticeably displeased.
