Horizon Forbidden West Might Not Release in 2021, Sony Reveals

Horizon Forbidden West is one of our most anticipated games of 2021, but it might not release this year.

E3 is just around the corner, and while Sony isn’t attending this year’s showcase, we’re certain to see a major livestream by PlayStation coming soon. After last week’s record-breaking Horizon Forbidden West State of Play, it’s only a matter of time before we see more from the AAA title.

Recently, we learned that God of War Ragnarok is being delayed, and coming to PS4 too! This news is disappointing many fans, who were hoping for another true PS5 exclusive experience dropping this year.

Horizon Forbidden West Delayed to 2022?

In a recent interview on the PlayStation Blog, Hermen Hulst reveals some potentially bad news for Horizon Forbidden West.

After confirming that God of War Ragnarok will release in 2022, Hulst goes on to talk about the fate of Horizon Forbidden West. The next chapter in Aloy’s adventure is set to release later this year, although Guerrilla Games promises that an exact release date is coming soon.

But as it turns out, even PlayStation Studios doesn’t know when Horizon Forbidden West will release. Due to the difficulty in handling performance capture during a pandemic, the game is seeing some serious delays.

With actors unable to meet and record for the narrative-driven experiences easily, it’s no wonder that development is proving tricky. And Sony is being clear that it won’t sacrifice the game’s quality, nor the wellbeing of its team.

“For Horizon, we think we are on track to release this holiday season,” Hermen Hulst reveals. “But that isn’t quite certain yet, and we’re working as hard as we can to confirm that to you as soon as we can.”
