Halo Infinite’s Attrition Game Mode Could Set Stage For Battle Royale

Ever since Halo Infinite was unveiled back at E3 2018, fans have been wondering if the game would be getting a battle royale mode.

2018 was, of course, a very different time, a time when battle royales were dominating gaming. Fortnite was changing the face of gaming and every developer was scrambling to add its own version of the last-man-standing game mode.

And while battle royales like COD: Warzone, Apex Legends, and Fortnite, still draw in millions of players, the game mode isn’t quite as hyped as it once was.

However, that hasn’t really stopped the clamoring for a Halo Infinite battle royale and a recently added game mode has got players once again wondering if a battle royale mode will soon be coming to the game.

That game mode is Attrition and it features many recognizable battle royale mechanics. Here is what has got everyone talking.

Is Halo Infinite Getting a Battle Royale Soon?

To answer that, we need to look at the new mechanics the Attrition game mode has introduced. Mechanics that wouldn’t look out of place in a battle royale.

The Attrition game mode is part of the Cyber Showdown event, the first event of a six-week run of content that is now live for players to jump into. The way it works is simple. Teams of four have a shared pool of lives, once the pool hits zero it becomes last man standing. It’s chaotic, the definition of “sweaty”, and we are loving it.

In addition to this, and unlike any other game mode, players can revive their teammates. The map also shrinks as the game progresses with a red electric storm chipping away at players’ health.

“Well, that sounds exactly like a battle royale!” – I hear you cry. And you would be right for thinking that. Except for the fact that it is only played with two teams of four and on relatively small maps.

However, the potential for these new mechanics to be used in a battle royale was not lost on fans, with Halo community portal, HaloHub, tweeting that they believe it is becoming “increasingly likely” such a game mode will make it to the game.

This isn’t the only evidence that a battle royale mode is on the way. In August 2021, a datamined voice line was found with the iconic Halo announcer bellowing “battle royale”.

Delivered in the same way that “Slayer” lives in many fans’ heads. it’s the most concrete sign that the developers have considered including a battle royale.

Whether such a game mode will come to the title is not yet clear. Halo Infinite already boasts huge maps thanks to its open-world campaign. And with many of the necessary ingredients already in the game thanks to the Attrition game mode, you have to ask yourself why not?

Piss off with your need for a battle royale. Attrion is a gamemode. Nothing more, nothing less. It's not a prelude to a battle royale.

Halo only needs one BR and that is the battle rifle.

Totally agree, battle royale has ruined the gaming industry with people thinking its a requirement. Not saying halo infinite is perfect but I know for a fact battle royale won't make it better
