Halo Infinite Jan 19 Update Fails to Improve Big Team Battle Matchmaking

The popular Big Team Battle game mode has had its issues and despite a patch, it appears it still does.

Game development must be really hard.

Just a short time after the teams behind Call of Duty announced a two-week delay to the start of Vanguard and Warzone Pacific Season 2, those behind Halo Infinite, rolled out an update intended to fix the Big Team Battles game mode and then in short order announced the very same update wasn’t working.

Today, at around 11 am PT, 343 Industries announced the rollout of a hotfix (you can see the patch notes below) that was announced last week. Intending to fix the Big Team Battles game mode which has been virtually unplayable since launch.

Not 25 minutes later, Halo Community Director, Brian Jarrard tweeted that the hotfix had failed to produce “the outcome expected.”

Perhaps it should come as no surprise the hotfix didn’t work. The 24-player game mode has had issues since launch and a patch that went out in December attempting to fix the issues also didn’t have the desired effect.

The main issue players face is failing to find a match. One report put it at an 80% failure rate, a figure that looks to remain for the foreseeable future.

Last week, 343 Industries also promised free XP Boosts and Challenge Swaps which they came through with. A silver lining may well be that when Big Team Battle does finally get fixed there will be yet more ways to speed up Halo Infinite’s rather tedious grind.

The Jan 19 hotfix is now live and players should restart their games to get the latest update. The patch is reportedly 1GB in size.

It remains to be seen when Big Team Battle will be fixed but until then you can enjoy some of the free rewards. All you have to do is login to the game between now and 10 am on February 16.

This isn’t the only issue that plagues the game, players are also taking issue with the number of cheaters. Though, the developers claim they plan to tackle the issue head-on in February.
