A new data mining leak has revealed that Gunfight and Gun Game may return to MW2 as part of the Season 2 content.
Twitter user BKTOOR posted datamined images that Activision has since removed featuring the MW2 Icons for both game modes. Due to how quickly they were moved, it could be a clear indicator that they were indeed real.
The images showcased the Gunfight and Gun Game icons from Modern Warfare 2’s game files. This could mean we’ll see it included in the many changes coming to MW2 and Warzone 2 with Season 2.
You can see the images in the video below at the 1:15 timestamp.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise since Infinity Ward confirmed that Gunfight would return to MW2 “at some point” in the title’s future.
This came from an interview that the game’s developers held with GameSpot. They mentioned that the current MW2 game mode, Knockout, was inspired by Gunfight.
It took its fast-paced playstyle and transferred it into a full 6v6 experience. Although, many players believe that the intensity of the Gunfight came from the intense 2v2 scenarios.
The closest thing to Gunfight in Modern Warfare 2 is in the Warzone 2 Gulag. The Gulag currently is a 2v2 match where players can work together to escape.
With the new changes announced to Gulag, it makes sense that they’d move 2v2 back to Modern Warfare 2 with the Gunfight mode.
Gun Game is a welcome addition since there is nothing like it in MW2, and it’s always a fan favorite mode among Call of Duty players.
What is Gunfight in MW2?
Gunfight is a 2v2 mode from Modern Warfare 2019. It was a popular mode because of the fast pace and intensity it gave players.
Players would have 40 seconds to eliminate the enemy team. If 40 seconds passed and both teams were still alive, they’d have 10 seconds to capture the Overtime Flag.
If no one captures the Overtime Flag, the team with the most health remaining is crowned the victor.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t included in the launch of Modern Warfare 2.
What is Gun Game in MW2?
Gun Game is a free-for-all game where players start with one weapon and transition between a series of weapons with each kill.
The first player to earn an elimination with every weapon wins the game. It was a mode first introduced as a Wager Match in the original Black Ops.
