GTA Online's biggest ever update is finally revealed, as Rockstar unveils a new Heist coming soon. What's more, it's coming hand-in-hand with a significant map expansion.
After a series of exciting teases that something big was on its way, Rockstar Games has finally dropped the trailer for The Cayo Perico Heist. This new expansion to GTA Online brings a heap of new content to the game, including a brand-new expansion to the GTA 5 map.
According to Rockstar, this new Heist features a brand-new approach, with the ability to play solo or with up to three friends. What's more, it all takes place on the new Cayo Perico island.
It seems that besides performing criminal activities in the tropical setting, there's also a range of other content to explore. With the addition of Cayo Perico, Rockstar Games is proving that it's far from done with GTA Online.
GTA Online: The Cayo Perico Heist
In The Cayo Perico Heist, GTA Online players will be tasked with breaching Cayo Perico. One of the most secure private islands in the world, this is certain to be no easy task.
Here, GTA Online fans must evade or neutralize the heavily armed security forces and escape with the loot. For their efforts, they'll be rewarded with "as much art, gold, and drug money as you can carry."
There's also some valuable evidence on the island of Cayo Perico. How this relates to yesterday's GTA 5 map expansion teaser, we don't yet know.
But besides Heisting, there's far more to explore in the new expansion. Cayo Perico comes packed with new vehicles, tactical weapons, and social spaces.
Excitingly, there are even some new world-class guest DJs, with over 100 new songs coming along for the ride. And a "very large, very versatile, and very heavily armed submarine HQ" comes packed with other surprises to discover.
When is GTA Online's Cayo Perico Heist Releasing?
According to the new announcement, The Cayo Perico Heist releases on December 15 in GTA Online. It's still a few weeks away yet, so players can spend some time getting prepared for the Heist.
If you're looking for a reason to drop back into the ever-shifting landscape that is GTA Online, Rockstar is certainly providing one. Although no map expansions ever came to GTA 5, the company is finally giving players new content to explore online.
At least while players are still paying out for GTA 5 Expanded and Enhanced, it certainly seems like the company has little incentive to produce a full new title.
