Fortnite players can now grind along rails by pressing Square / X / E when next to the new futuristic rails that are appearing around MEGA City. Players can hop on and off the new rails, and grind at high speed around the map.
What’s more, while grinding, players can use healing items or even shoot at enemies.
If you’ve ever wanted a Sonic the Hedgehog crossover with Fortnite, this is about as close as we’re likely to get.

How to Use a Grind Rail Fortnite Controls
- Begin Grind – Square / X / E
- Speed Boost – L3 / Left Analog Stick Press / Shift
- Slow Down – Down on the Analog Stick / S
- Jump – X / A / Space Bar
- Turn Around – Rotate the Camera and Hold Forward / W
- Shoot – Equip your gun, then use R2 / RT / Left Click
When jumping to another rail after grinding, you will automatically begin grinding again with no button press required.

How to Restore Health or Gain Shields While on a Grind Rail
To restore health or gain shields while on a Grind Rail, Fortnite players must first find a rail and begin grinding (Square / X / E).
Then, select a healing or shield item from your hotbar as normal and use it (R2 / RT / Left Click). Your character will begin healing just like they would on the ground.
This handy trick allows players to regain health and shields while on the go, something that’s usually impossible in Fortnite.
However, if you come to the end of a Grind Rail before the healing animation is complete, you may not consume the item in time. Be sure to only heal up when you’ve got sufficient time to do so.
Where to Find All Grind Rail Locations in Fortnite
Grind Rails are found only in MEGA City in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2.
These rails are found everywhere in the POI, but aren’t present anywhere else on the map.
You’ll easily spot them thanks to their colorful glow against the backdrop of the futuristic city.
