Greninja 7 Star Tera Raid Guide – Weakness, Best Counters, End Date

Greninja will have a Poison Tera-Type during this 7 Star Tera Raid, which makes it weak to Ground and Psychic attacks.

With this in mind, you should avoid taking Fighting, Poison, Bug, Grass, or Fairy Pokemon to this Raid, as these move types only deal half damage to Poison types.

When Greninja is not Terastalized, it has a Water/Dark type, so your mons will also have to be prepared for attacks of those two types!

Best Counters to Use Against Greninja 7 Star Tera Raid

Greninja is likely to have Water, Dark, and Poison moves. For this reason, the following Pokemon could make great counters for this 7-Star Raid:

The Greninja 7 Star Raid has now officially launched. This article is currently updated to reflect the best counters for its moveset.

Slowbro

    • Modest
  • Ability
    • Own Tempo
  • Tera Type
    • Any Tera Type
  • Hold Item
    • Life Orb
  • Level
    • 100

Pros

  • Slowbro can deliver immense damage when combining Nasty Plot with Stored Power.
  • Additionally, it gets a STAB 1.5x damage increase with Stored Power, which is super effective against Greninja’s Poison Tera-Type in this 7 Star Raid.

Cons

  • Night Slash can easily land Critical Hits. However, Greninja mostly uses Hydro Pump, especially after its Attack has been lowered.

Strategy

  • The Slowbro strategy consists of boosting stats in a set order and then using Stored Power to unleash a massive attack with the possibility of a one-hit KO. We have a whole guide dedicated to this useful Nasty Plot Slowbro build!

Gastrodon

Gastrodon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
  • Moves
    • Recover
    • Earth Power
    • Helping Hand
    • Amnesia
  • Possible Additional Moves
    • Earthquake
    • Protect
    • Acid Armor (Egg Move)
    • Yawn (Egg Move)
  • Nature
    • Modest
  • Ability
    • Storm Drain
  • Tera Type
    • Ground
  • Hold Item
    • Wiki Berry or Leftovers
  • Level
    • 100

Pros

  • Gastrodon’s Water and Ground type combo is perfect for covering most of the possible attack types Greninja could have.
  • Storm Drain is a perfect ability to counter this Greninja 7 Star Tera Raid, as it will make Gastrodon immune to Water-type attacks and boost its Sp. Atk. for every Water attack used in battle.
  • Gastrodon has a decent HP base stat, and if you add Acid Armor to the mix, it could become quite challenging for Greninja to wipe it out of battle.

Cons

  • Gastrodon can take a bit longer to chip off Greninja’s shields and health, so it might not be the ideal build to counter this Greninja Raid solo. This build works better if you are working together with friends that pursue a more offensive approach.

Strategy

  • The strategy with Gastrodon is starting with Amnesia or Acid Armor to boost Defense or Sp. Def stats from the get-go. Then, you can move on with Earth Power and Recover as needed.
  • Mid-battle, Greninja will reset all stat changes, so it’s a good idea to do another Amnesia or Acid Armor at this point.
  • If you want to play a support role in this Raid, you can also do Helping Hand and Recover as needed.

Klefki

Klefki Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
  • Moves
    • Sunny Day (TM)
    • Calm Mind (TM)
    • Light Screen (TM)
    • Stored Power (TM)
  • Possible Additional Moves
  • Nature
    • Calm or Bold
  • Ability
    • Prankster
  • Tera Type
    • Steel
  • Hold Item
    • Light Clay
  • Level
    • 100

Pros

  • The combination of Steel and Fairy is excellent as a counter for the Greninja 7 Star Raid as it grants immunity to the Poison status.
  • Despite not being a Psychic Pokemon, Klefki has a vast repertoire of this type of moves, making it super effective against Greninja’s Poison Tera-Type.
  • Klefki can have the Prankster ability, which helps prioritize Status moves like Light Screen or Reflect in battle. Additionally, using Light Clay can extend the duration of these moves. This can significantly benefit the user and the whole Raid party, making this mon a great support ally.

Cons

  • Klefki’s stats are not great by any means, especially its HP base stat.
  • You might depend on Defense or Special Defense boosting moves to avoid fainting in battle. Nonetheless, Stored Power can benefit from these buffs, transforming them into an opportunity to attack later in battle.
  • This Pokemon is not the best option to solo this Raid. It works much better if accompanied by a team that compliments this strategy, and it is more suitable as a support role when paired with Sunny Day and Light Screen/Reflect.

Strategy

  • If you want an offensive strategy with Klefki, start with Light Screen or Reflect to shield you and your party from damage. Move forward with several Calm Minds to boost Sp. Atk. and Sp. Def. Once you have spammed at least three of them, you can start attacking with Stored Power. When status changes are reset mid-battle, you will have to boost again.
  • For a more supportive and defensive approach, start with Light Screen or Reflect, and continue with Sunny Day to reduce the damage from Water attacks. Follow these moves with a few Metal Sound moves to decrease Greninja’s Sp. Def., allowing your party to land more damage. Refresh Light Screen or Reflect as needed.

Clodsire

Clodsire Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
  • Moves
    • Earthquake
    • Amnesia
    • Acid Spray
    • Recover (Egg Move) or Helping Hand
  • Possible Additional Moves
    • Earth Power
    • Curse
  • Nature
    • Adamant or Careful
  • Ability
    • Water Absorb
  • Tera Type
    • Steel
  • Hold Item
    • Black Sludge
  • Level
    • 100

Pros

  • Clodsire could be a great counter since it has an immunity to the Poison status for its type and gets STAB 1.5x damage boost for Ground-type moves, which are super effective against Greninja in this 7 Star Tera Raid.
  • Water Absorb heals this Pokemon every time it gets hit by a Water-type move instead of causing damage.

Cons

  • Greninja has Ice Beam during this Raid, but it rarely uses this move, especially if its attack is lowered.

Strategy

  • You can boost your Sp. Def with Amnesia, move forward with Acid Spay to lower Greninja’s Sp. Def. and finally, land super effective Earthquake moves. If you have Recover, you can heal as needed.
