Make the best out of your Nordic adventure in God of War Ragnarok with these tips!
Even though Ragnarok is a natural evolution of God of War 2018, plenty has changed. There will be many familiar elements right out of the gate, but also some welcome surprises.
If this is your first God of War game, or if you are a veteran that wants to go as prepared as possible, this guide is for you!
Here are 12 tips you need to know before starting your first God of War Ragnarok playthrough.
12. Ragnarok’s Story Recap Might Not Be Enough for New Players
There is a story recap option right as you start God of War Ragnarok. However, this summary is brief and serves more as a reminder of significant events in the previous title for those who played it.
If you are a newcomer to this franchise, we recommend that you get a quick glimpse of the God of War story so far.
This game has plenty of excellent references to previous entries that land much better if you have full knowledge of events that transpired in previous GoW titles.

11. Choose the Best Graphics Settings for You
Ragnarok features several graphics modes, some favoring frame rate and others resolution. Depending on your hardware and gameplay preference, select the graphical setting that works best for you.
Our advice with this one is to go with the setting that offers more frame rate stability for your setup. The combat in GoW Ragnarok is very fluid and shines even brighter with higher and more stable frames.

10. Do Not Worry About Armor Rarity
In Ragnarok, the God of War armor rarity system has been completely ditched, allowing all armor pieces to be upgraded to Level 9.
This means that you will not have to leave behind a particular piece of armor just because your Power Level is too high.
Ultimately, this change makes choosing the armor you like easier, eliminating concerns about upgrade limitations as you progress in the game.
9. Focus on Armor Stats, Not Armor Appearance
God of War Ragnarok includes an armor Transmog system, so players can change their favorite armor’s appearance if they please while retaining its stats.
This feature unlocks at equipment Level 9, so you might have to wait sometime before transforming that efficient but ugly armor into something you fancy a bit more.
8. Explore & Complete Side Quests Before Lowering Difficulty
When facing an area or boss that seems too challenging, try exploring to gain additional XP and resources instead of considering lowering the difficulty level.
As a tip, exploring is a crucial aspect of God of War Ragnarok, resulting in more XP and resources to upgrade your equipment and armor. This, in return, makes the game more manageable.
If you have already explored and collected enough resources, but the adventure is still too much of a grind, consider what difficulty level is best for you.

7. Consider Auto Equip for Hasslefree Armor & Weapon Customization
If you want a hassle-free experience when it comes to equipment customization, try using the Auto Equip option by pressing L3 on the Weapons or Armor menu tabs.
For those who want a more streamlined customization process, the Auto Equip option is perfect! This feature prioritizes the stat of your choosing and instantly equips the attachments of the highest Power Level.
6. There Is No Need to Hoard Upgrade Resources
Once you reach specific points in the game, equipment will require different resources for upgrades, and the previously needed resources will be on sale at the shop.
This one is very simple advice: Do not hoard upgrade materials. Instead, spend it leveling up a piece of equipment you like.
These materials will be available for purchase at some point, so do not be afraid to spend the ones you have collected!
5. Use Skills as Often as Possible
Using a Skill constantly will make it eventually reach Gold Tier, which unlocks a Skill Mod Slot. This mod allows for customization, making that skill even better!
As a helpful Ragnarok tip: You can view the current counter that tracks how many times you have used a particular skill in the Info tab.

4. XP Also Works for Spartan Rage & Relics
XP is no longer limited to being spent on Runic Attacks. It can also help you upgrade Spartan Rage Modes and Relics.
Once you have enough XP, take a quick look at your Weapons tab. Here, you will be able to upgrade Runic Attacks, Spartan Rage Modes, and also Relics.

3. Don’t Forget About Odin’s Ravens Rewards
You can collect Armor and Runic Attacks as rewards for hunting Odin’s Ravens across the realms at the Raven Tree in Niflheim.
These rewards unlock progressively as you continue to hunt these creatures and progress in the main questline of God of War Ragnarok.

2. Experiment With the Amulet of Yggdrasil
Enchantments are now equipped on the Amulet of Yggdrasil, and you can get great Attunement bonuses by equipping amulets from the same Realm Set.
Mixing and tweaking amulets can be a game-changer in boosting your particular combat style! Give it a shot and see what works for you.

1. Consider Armor Set Bonuses
Mix matching is an option, but pairing two armor pieces that belong to the same set will grant you additional perks.
