Ganondorf is one of the most iconic villains in the gaming world, and he has managed to ascend to this status without an actual voice in the video games.
Until now, most players’ experience with Ganondorf has consisted of grunts and laughs. But it looks like Tears of the Kingdom will finally change that.
Who Will Voice Ganondorf in Tears of the Kingdom?
Ganondorf is voiced by acclaimed voice actor Matthew Mercer in TOTK. This was confirmed by Mercer himself via a tweet in which he stated, “I can FINALLY announce my absolute pleasure to be voicing Ganondorf in the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.”
Fans may recognize his distinct voice from games and shows such as Overwatch 2 as Cassidy, Attack on Titan as Levi, and Persona 5 Royal as Yusuke Kitagawa.
This is actually the first time players hear Ganondorf speak in the franchise’s history. Ganondorf was never much of a vocal character in the past, just like most of the cast in Zelda games.
With such a monumental moment, it makes sense that Nintendo is taking its time to properly announce who will finally play the role of this iconic antagonist.
Players can hear Ganondorf speaking at the 2:55 minute mark in the latest The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Trailer.
When you compare Matt Mercer’s voice to Ganondorf in the latest TOTK trailer, it’s pretty easy to see the similarities.
In previous titles, players that encountered him would be greeted by a combination of grunts and laughs. The closest Ganondorf has had to a voice actor is Len Carlson in the Legend of Zelda Cartoon.
Who is Matt Mercer?
Matthew Mercer is known for being the Dungeon Master in the critically acclaimed series, Critical Role. He is an incredibly talented voice actor that has worked on some of gaming’s favorite characters, including:
- Cole Cassidy – Overwatch
- Leon Kennedy – Resident Evil 6
- Yusuke Kitagawa – Persona 5
- Levi Ackerman – Attack on Titan
- Male Hunter – Marvel’s Midnight Suns
So it’d come as no surprise if a voice actor of his caliber was revealed to be the voice of Ganondorf in The Legend of Zelda: Voice of the Kingdom.
