There doesn’t seem to be a clear reason why friend requests appear locked on MW2, but thankfully there are a few fixes that players have found.
This glitch appears without cause and stops you from accepting any friend requests you have received. The glitch itself blocks players from viewing any friend requests they receive.
Even if they know they have pending friend requests, this glitch prevents them from accessing them. When friend requests lock they’ll display “Locked” right under them.

How Do You Unlock Friend Requests on MW2 or Warzone 2?
To unlock friend requests on Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2, you’ll need to have your friend send you a friend request with your Activision ID. To find your Activision ID, open up the main menu and go to Settings > Account and Network > Activision Account.
Once your friend has sent you a friend request, this should unlock the friend requests option. If it doesn’t work, you can accept a friend request from the MW2 options menu instead. To do this:
- Press the pause button in the MW2 or Warzone 2 menu to bring up the sidebar options.
- Navigate to the third tab, Notifications.
- From these notifications, you’ll see any pending friend requests.
Here are some other possible fixes to the locked friend requests bug in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2:
- Restart the Modern Warfare 2 or Warzone 2 application.
- Add friends from the Call of Duty Companion App.
- You can download the app here:
- Log into Activision with your respective platform
This is how to work around the locked friend requests error. Thankfully, it’s easy to fix and isn’t as harmful as the glitch that sends players flying into the circle.
These constant glitches and bugs that MW2 experiences aren’t something that surprises the player base. Warzone 2 and MW2 have been plagued with various bugs that have been present since launch.
Thankfully, Infinity Ward has been listening to the players, and some much-needed changes are coming with Season 2.
Season 2 will introduce various new modes and could potentially bring plenty of bug fixes. MW2 Season 2 will also finally bring Ranked Play into the mix.
If Ranked Play is ready to launch, then it could mean that Infinity Ward has taken their time to iron out any bugs that may affect players.
