Call of Duty is already teasing Black Op 6 Zombies’ second map, Liberty Falls, in the thrilling conclusion to Modern Warfare 3 Zombies.
MWZ was perhaps one of the most controversial Zombies modes in Call of Duty history. While initially, fans praised the open-world survival mode, which was surprisingly fun for something relatively barebones at launch, sentiment soon changed when very little content arrived with each new season.
But now, as Black Ops 6 brings with it the long-awaited return of round-based Zombies, it appears that the Modern Warfare storyline might be more important than it appeared.
Final MW3 Zombies Cutscene
After completing the final Easter Egg in Modern Warfare 3 Zombies, we get a new cutscene that sets the stage for Black Ops 6:
The trailer features Dr Ava Jansen, the biological daughter of Samantha Maxis and Sergei Ravenov. In the MWZ storyline, Jansen became possessed by the Entity from the Dark Aether.
Although players were able to drive the Entity out of Jansen, we see that the doctor might not be completely in the clear just yet.
After reading a file about the mysterious Project Janus, whose headquarters lie on Terminus Island, Jansen tells Ravenov that she’s back at work.
This time, Jansen is visiting Liberty Falls, the site of a localized incursion that Quartermaster Krystal Miller survived as a child.
The Return of Two Mothers
Despite Ravenov’s warnings, Dr Jansen is unable to escape the danger of Liberty Falls.
Shortly after, we see a shadowy figure appear in her mirror; a hand reaches out through the glass and grabs hold of the doctor, pulling her through a portal and (presumably) into the past.
It appears that Jansen will play a key role in the incursion she’s currently researching, which is likely the one that takes place in the 90s, alongside the Black Ops 6 Zombies story.
Although Jansen believes she hears her mother calling for her, we don’t know if this is actually Samantha Maxis – or simply another Entity trick.
Alternatively, Jansen’s surrogate mother, Elizabeth Grey, is one of the returning Crew members for the Terminus map. Could the two of them also reunite during the Black Ops 6 Zombies storyline?
Only time will tell, but we can’t wait to learn more at COD NEXT 2024!
