Halo fans have spoken up about one of the most controversial design decisions in Halo Infinite – making the game free-to-play.
It was a pleasant surprise when the Halo Infinite Multiplayer Beta dropped last week. However, many fans of the series have decided that being free-to-play has harmed the shooter.
All the way back at E3, Microsoft announced that Halo Infinite Multiplayer would be free-to-play. This news was celebrated by many, but some players have changed their minds now.
But what is the problem with Halo Infinite being free to play? Unfortunately, players think that there are many.
Problems With Halo Infinite Mutiplayer Being Free-To-Play
Following news that the Halo Infinite co-op campaign is ‘playable’ already, fans of the series have hit out at the decision to make the multiplayer mode in the game free-to-play.
A new post on the Halo subreddit has revealed all of the problems free-to-play causes and sparked a debate amongst fans. What’s more, with over 4000 upvotes so far, many players have strong opinions about this topic.
The post highlights a few key issues with the free-to-play system. Chief of which is the insanely expensive armor coatings in Halo Infinite.
In terms of cosmetics in Halo, free-to-play players have almost no customization options. This wouldn’t be a problem if the game’s Multiplayer was paid for as there would probably be way more unlockable cosmetics.
Additionally, poster u/Ekewakaa believes that Halo Infinite being free-to-play has negatively affected the quality of the game. In particular, they mention the major issues with enemy collision in Halo Infinite.
Plus, the insane amount of time it takes to level up the Halo Infinite Battle Pass is also probably a product of the game being available at no cost.
What’s more, hackers are now ruining games of Halo Infinite. A game being free-to-play makes it easier for cheaters to make new accounts.
While all of these criticisms are valid, there is a huge bonus from the game being free-to-play. It increases the player base and introduces new fans to the series.
Let’s just hope that hardcore fans can learn to deal with the annoying free-to-play aspects of Halo Infinite and continue to enjoy it for a long time.
