Elden Ring: How to Get to Altus Plateau

After Liurnia of the Lakes and beating Rennala, your next goal in Elden Ring is to reach Altus Plateau.

If you’re storming through the legacy dungeons in Elden Ring, you’ve probably beaten Rennala and earned the ability to re-spec. If you’re unsure how to do that, we have a guide on how to re-spec your attributes in Elden Ring.

However, if you want to head to the next area on your journey, you’re going to need to find Atlus Plateau.

Luckily for you, there are two methods to get to the Altus Plateau area. This guide will help you find both ways to Atlus Plateau so you can pick which one you prefer.

How to Reach Altus Plateau Through The Grand Lift of Dectus

The first way to arrive at Altus Plateau is via The Grand Lift of Dectus. This method is the “easiest” way.

Before we head to The Grand Lift, we need to find two halves of a medallion. This may be a bit of a long-winded process in terms of travel time unless you’ve followed some of our previous guides.

First, we need to head to Fort Haight. Luckily, Fort Haight is early in Elden Ring, as it’s located to the east of Limgrave.

Elden Ring Fort Haight

Head over to the Fort, taking on the many small enemies which inhabit it. Make your way through the enemies to the top of the fort and take a ladder in a tower. When you reach the top, you can open a chest to find the Dectus Medallion Left piece.

While you’re in Fort Haight, make sure to grab the Bloody Slash Ash of War, one of the best Ashes of War in Elden Ring!

Next, we’re going to have to head over to Caelid. If you followed our early-game Elden Ring Meteorite Staff guide, you’ll have already accessed this area. If you haven’t, there are two ways to access Caelid.

  • Through a chest in the Dragon-Burnt Ruins in Limgrave, which takes you to Caelid directly
  • Heading east of Limgrave, following the path towards Caelid.

Once you’re in Caelid, head over to Fort Faroth in the east of Caelid. Some bats deal a lot of poison damage, so simply run straight through, head up the ladder and open the chest to earn the Dectus Medallion Right item!

After you’ve got both pieces, head to the Main Academy Gate Site of Grace in Liurnia of the Lakes, turn around, and head to the north blue seal. Interact with it and teleport.

Elden Ring Main Academy Gate Seal

Once you’ve teleported, you’ll be on Bellum Highway. Follow along the path and then head towards the ruins of a church. There’s a Site of Grace here (and you’ll need it for the second method too!)

Head east out of the church, then follow the highway northeast towards the large building. Watch out for the Trebuchets launching rocks at you and speed past the small enemy camp.

Once you enter the building, interact at the small circular platform, and a cutscene will play. Once the cutscene finishes, you’ll have arrived at Altus Plateau!

How to Get to Altus Plateau in Elden Ring WITHOUT The Grand Lift

If you’re looking to reach Altus Plateau without using The Grand Lift of Dectus, here’s how you can do that!

Head to the Main Academy Gate Site of Grace, turn around, and head to the blue seal which is facing closer to the north. Interact with it to teleport to the Bellum Highway.

Like the above method, head to the Bellum Church Site of Grace in the ruins of a church. From here, instead of heading east like the other method, go down the slope facing north.

Elden Ring Bellum Church Downhill

Follow the slope downhill northeast until you reach the river. Head along the river, minding the poisonous creatures that spew gas, and you’ll soon see a small erdtree with a golden seed. Grab it, swing around, and find a Site of Grace near a hut.

Elden Ring Ravine Site of Grace

Climb the ladder near the Site of Grace and keep climbing the treacherous path. You’ll face some pretty annoying creatures here, so keep your wits about you.

At one point, you’ll use a lift to reach a Site of Grace called the Ruin-Strewn Precipice Overlook. This is a Site of Grace before a Magma Wyrm boss fight. Use co-op summons or Spirit Ash summons to help you. If you need some better summons, we have a guide on where to find every Spirit Ash Summon in Elden Ring.

Defeat the Magma Wyrm, head to the lift on the other side of the cave, and take it up. You’ll reach Altus Plateau.
