Elden Ring Ashes of War work similar to enchantments but with a slight twist. They upgrade certain gear and weapons to help you on your playthrough.

Elden Ring’s deep systems range from many different starting classes to choose from, all the way to different stats and equipment for your classes.

There’s also the Elden Ring Keepsakes, which can affect your playthrough. And if you plan to build your character perfectly, you’ll need to understand what Ashes of War in Elden Ring are.

What Are Ashes of War in Elden Ring

Ashes of War are Elden Ring’s take on enchantments, allowing players to increase stats of their gear, decrease other stats on the same gear, and replace equipment skills.

Ashes of War are locked to certain gear types. For example, Ash of War: Glintsword Arch can be used only on thrusting weapons.

Using the Ash of War ability will summon 4 magic daggers, which fly towards the next available enemy. But that’s not all.

Take the above example again. Glintsword Arch is of a Magic affinity. If you applied this to your weapon, it would increase the Magic damage and intelligence scaling of your weapon but negate base damage and Strength scaling.

You’ll need FP for many Ashes of War, however. Make sure you understand what Elden Ring’s FP are and how to get more to make the most of your skills!

There are plenty of Ashes of War to find on your journey through The Lands Between, but how do you find them?

How to Find and Use Ashes of War in Elden Ring

Ashes of War can be found in hard-to-reach places and often drop from killing bosses and other enemies. Some of Elden Ring’s starting classes also come with an Ash of War, and the abilities appear on several weapons in the game too.

If you’ve got your hands on an Ash of War and want to apply it to a weapon, you can do so at a Site of Grace. These are Elden Ring’s equivalent to the Bonfire in the Dark Souls series.

You can also remove Ashes of War and apply them to other equipment at Sites of Grace. Doing this is free, and will return any equipment’s stats to their original value.

A lot of Ashes of War will only work when wielding a weapon in a particular way. Make sure you know how to swap a weapon to two-handed mode in Elden Ring.
