Since the release of Elden Ring, players have been itching to learn more about DLC and where FromSoftware can take us next in the Lands Between.
It’s no secret that Elden Ring has had one of the most successful runs of the year. It’s currently on track to becoming the best-selling game of 2022. Months after its release, the community still finds new builds to explore or items they enjoy.
But despite this, FromSoftware kept its plans for DLC relatively quiet. Now, Elden Ring’s first free DLC is here, and fans are eager to see what’s coming next.
With that in mind, we’ve scoured the internet for every theory, rumor, and mention of DLC that FromSoftware has ever made.
Here’s everything you need to know about future DLC coming to Elden Ring and the Lands Between.

When Can We Expect to See Elden Ring DLC?
FromSoftware recently announced its first free DLC update for Elden Ring, adding a new PVP Colosseum to the game. However, when it comes to a major map expansion DLC, it is very unlikely we will see such an update 2022, with a 2023 launch being more probable.
It is likely we will hear more about Elden Ring DLC in the first quarter of 2023.
FromSoftware’s DLC Approach with Past Games
Release Date | First DLC Announcement Date | DLC Release Date | |
Dark Souls | September 22, 2011 | June 1, 2012 | October 23, 2012 |
Dark Souls 2 | March 11, 2014 | June 4, 2014 | July 22, 2014 |
Dark Souls 3 | March 24, 2016 | August 24, 2016 | October 25, 2016 |
Bloodborne | March 24, 2015 | September 15, 2015 | November 24, 2015 |
Demon Souls and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice never received any paid DLC.
From this chart, we can see that with their more recent games, FromSoftware has announced DLC 6-7 months after the release of their game. Then the DLC arrives either 1-2 months after the announcement.
The Tokyo Game Show took place on September 15-18, and despite FromSoftware revealing their Bloodborne DLC during this show in 2015, there was no mention of Elden Ring.
Taking all this into consideration, it is unlikely Elden Ring is going to follow the usual FromSoftware cadence for post-launch content.
But keep in mind that Elden Ring is their first open-world game. So don’t be surprised if we need to wait a few more months after the announcement for the DLC to release.
While players wait for DLC, trying out all of FromSoftware’s titles is something every fan of Elden Ring should do.

Elden Ring DLC Theories & Rumors
Since its release, players have found exciting theories regarding where the future of Elden Ring might take the story.
Some of these theories were developed after some videos posted by Lance McDonald showcasing hidden assets in the game’s files.
We’ve rounded everything up together for you here! Check out some of the more popular and exciting Elden Ring theories and rumors.
Potential PvP Arena DLC
Through the game’s files, players were able to find a new arena-style Colosseum that could potentially mean there are plans for Elden Ring PvP DLC in the future. This would make a lot of sense, considering the PvP duel community is one of the most active in Elden Ring.
UPDATE: This theory was proven correct and the Colosseum is now opening with Elden Ring’s first DLC update!
A PvP DLC would allow players to have a place to go strictly for PvP rather than randomly invade players. It could also enable FromSoftware to include some sort of rule-making mechanic exclusive to the Colosseum.

Elden Ring Ring Divine Towers Map Theory
Many players have pointed out that if you were to trace all the Divine Towers on the Lands Between, they seem to point to the clouded area in the middle of the map.
This could potentially mean that whatever story DLC FromSoftware has planned for Elden Ring will take place in this map section. Maybe even the priorly mentioned PvP arena DLC could take place here.
Miquella & Mohgwyn Palace
Throughout your Elden Ring adventure, players constantly hear about Miquella, Malenia’s lost brother, plenty of times.
But unfortunately, there is never a point where we meet him directly. You find out that he was taken by Mohgwyn and tortured until he fell into a slumber and hasn’t woken up since.
When you defeat Mogh, Lord of Blood, you can see Miquella’s cocoon for yourself. From it, his lifeless hand will show through a crack in the cocoon.
But it is never explicitly mentioned that he has died. This leads many to believe that his story is not yet finished. Miquella is said to have some sort of connection to St.Trina, whose clerics have access to weapons that inflict sleep.
This could point to a future DLC where we interact with Miquella’s hand and are transported to a dream-like state. Similar to what happened when completing Fia’s quest line to obtain one of the alternate endings in Elden Ring.
All of this is based on lore that is found when navigating through Mohwyn’s Palace, one of the secret locations in Elden Ring.
There are also plenty of Elden Ring fan theories that are pretty enticing and could lead to DLC. One player even laid down hours of work to craft a diagram to make sense of Elden Ring’s family tree.

Important Events That Could Be Their Own Elden Ring DLC
FromSoftware is no stranger to expanding its concepts and lore in the form of DLC. Their most heavily praised DLC to date, Bloodborne: The Old Hunters, was a sort of prequel to the main game.
So perhaps Elden Ring will finally elaborate on some of its more impactful events. Here we’ll examine a few that we found interesting and the different directions FromSoftware can take the series.
Night of the Black Knives
The Night of the Black Knives is the initial event that sets off the events of Elden Ring and The Shattering. It is during the Night of Black Knives where the first Demigod falls, Godwyn the Golden. Godwyn the Golden was the first son of Godfrey and Marika.
You may have seen remnants of his body while in the Deeproot Depths or Stormveil Castle.
During the Night of the Black Knives, a piece of the Rune of Death was stolen from Maliketh. Ranni orchestrated this, but she never intended to kill Godwyn with it. She wanted to use it on herself to escape her body.
Since the children of Marika and Radagon are Demi-Gods, their spirit may live on even if their physical body dies.
Once the piece of the Rune of Death was stolen, the Black Knives were formed. The Black Knives are a faction we see many times throughout Elden Ring.
So it would be interesting to see a DLC where we played through the events that transpired during the Night of Black Knives.

The Shattering
The Shattering is the event that precedes the Elden Ring campaign. During the Shattering, Queen Marika broke the Ring after the death of Godwyn the Golden. This triggered the Greater Will to abandon the Lands Between.
With the Ring shattered and scattered, the Lands Between became a place of war. Everyone wanted to own one of the Great Runes that was created when the Ring scattered.
It would be interesting to see the Lands Between prior to the Shattering. This DLC could even include the Night of the Black Knives mentioned above as a short prologue to it.
But a DLC involving the Shattering would show us different forms of Malenia, Radahn, and even a glimpse at Miquella.
It could also make use of Caelid before it was infested with Scarlet Rot.

They haven’t confirmed nor mentioned DLC directly. But Hidetaka Miyazaki, the director of Elden Ring, has done multiple interviews in which he has talked about Elden Ring.
In one interview, he revealed his favorite bosses in Elden Ring and that FromSoftware would continue to make games that they found interesting.
Recently, the official Elden Ring Twitter account mentioned that they would continue supporting the game with updates. They ended by saying they hope we continue enjoying our adventure in The Lands Between.

Elden Ring & Community Mods That Feel Like DLC
Despite there not being any DLC currently announced or released for Elden Ring, there are some noteworthy mods that feel like full-fledged expansions.
Seamless CO-OP Multiplayer Mod
Nexus Mods released their seamless CO-OP multiplayer mod to expand on Elden Ring’s online capabilities.
With this groundbreaking mod, players will be able to play through the entirety of Elden Ring with up to three of their friends.
This means they can all use horses to travel, remain in-game when a boss is defeated, and respawn at the nearest site of grace when they are killed.

The Convergence Mod
The creators of the Dark Souls 3 Convergence Mod have announced that they will now be working on an Elden Ring Convergence Mod.
The Dark Souls 3 Convergence Mod brought new weapons, systems, spells, map reworks, bosses, and more to the community. So with the open-world of Elden Ring, we can only imagine the sort of content that they will manage to bring to the Lands Between.
Their Dark Souls 3 mod took around 7 months to release so we probably won’t see the Elden ring Convergance Mod until next year.
Elden Ring Demake
The Elden Ring community has been hard at work at bringing the Lands Between to their favorite art forms. One of these was the recently released Elden Ring Demake which brings the Lands Between to an 8-bit setting!

The Elden Ring Demake allows you to explore a few iconic locations and even take on some of the games most famous bosses.
