The Senior Vice President of Bethesda Softworks, Pete Hines, was recently interviewed regarding E3. In this interview he seemingly teased doom 2.
“I couldn’t give you any guesses as to what we’re going to announce and when those games will be out. But I will say, we have a lot of new stuff to talk about at E3. Whether or not folks realize it, this is the hell on Earth time for us with E3. We are in the midst of so much planning and work for all of that content but I’m really excited.”
The original doom 2 was titled “Doom 2: Hell on earth”. “Hell on earth” was mentioned in this interview by Pete Hines.
We can only assume this means that Pete Hines was hinting at a doom 2 for current generation platforms. It looks to be getting a reveal at E3 2018 based on this tease and will most likely release in 2019 on the PlayStation 4, Xbox one, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
I have reasons to believe this game is coming to Nintendo Switch along with other platforms. Check out this quote from Pete Hines talking about Switch (Same interview)
“It’ll just depend. It’ll depend on whether or not we think the game is a good fit for the platform technically and whether we think it’s something that audience wants on Switch. In that way, it’s literally no different than any other platform that we look at or any other game that we do. Hopefully, it’ll be a mix of both. If there’s stuff that folks want us to release on Switch and it’s a good fit and it works – great. If it’s new stuff going forward that we think is a good fit and will work on Switch, then we’ll do that too.”
Along with this, Doom 2016 also released on switch. Why have 1 without 2? In my opinion a switch release is inevitable.
You can catch Bethesda’s E3 conference on Sunday, June 10th at 6:30 PT/ 9:30 EST.
