The Saints Row reboot is coming out very soon, but can you play with your friends in co-op multiplayer, and if so, how does it work?
The 3rd Street Saints are coming back after being MIA for a few years, but it’s not the same crew we’re all used to. In fact, the latest game is a reboot of the series, mixing the old with the new.
But if you’re hoping to pick up a copy and play with your friends, you may be wondering whether Saints Row 2022 features co-op or even local play.
Does Saints Row Reboot Feature Online Co-Op Multiplayer?
Yes. Saints Row 2022 does feature online co-op multiplayer.
Not only that, but the multiplayer offers an incredible amount of freedom. Your co-op partner can run to the other side of the city of Santo Ileso by themselves.
Both players’ customization options will be shown in their full glory, meaning even the wackiest of characters will be visible.
However, if you or your friend activate a mission, you’ll both be teleported to play through the mission.
Can You Play Local Co-Op in Saints Row Reboot?
The Saints Row reboot doesn’t offer a local co-op option, based on previous Saints Row games.
Previous entries in the Saints Row series haven’t offered a similar option either, requiring players to play online only.
Due to how much freedom Saints Row offers, it’s likely that many consoles would suffer with split-screen, meaning the developers would need to cut back on performance or the graphics to compensate.
How Many Players Can Play Saints Row 2022’s Co-Op?
Unfortunately, the Saints Row reboot only allows two players in co-op play.
While the exact reason for this is unknown, the Saints Row series has only allowed two players in co-operative since the first game. And while some of the limitations have been removed, they’ve kept the two-player co-op.
For many, this wouldn’t be a surprise. However, considering the next generation of consoles, some fans will likely be disappointed.
How Does Co-Op Affect Saints Row’s Story / Single-Player?
Co-operative players can play through the entirety of Saints Row 2022’s story without any issue, according to Volition.
So, if you’re hoping to team up with a friend and experience the plot from start to finish, you absolutely can.
And if your single-player save is early in the game, and you complete a late-game mission with a friend, Saints Row will remember and allow you to skip that mission later.
But that’s not the only thing to enjoy with Saints Row’s multiplayer. Players can prank their friends by building up the prank meter, turning them into different props. And, to top it all off, these props will appear in cutscenes.
At least there are plenty of things to do in Santo Ileso when Saints Row launches, with or without friends.
