What is the Tree of Whispers in Diablo 4?

The Tree of Whispers is an endgame vendor involved in the Whispers of the Dead bounty system. Whispers of the Dead gives players a set of continuous tasks and objectives once they have completed the campaign and reached the endgame in Diablo 4.

These objectives, referred to as ‘Whispers’, appear as various objectives in various locations in a random subregion on the map. Completing tasks will grant you a set amount of Grim Favors, depending on the type of objective.

There is a limited time to complete the objectives before a new set of Whispers of the Dead quests will become available in another subregion.

How to Unlock the Tree of Whispers in Diablo 4

To unlock the Tree of Whispers system in Diablo 4 you must first complete the campaign.

Once you have completed every Main Quest of the campaign, a Priority Quest named ‘Whispers of the Dead’ will become available.

Traveling to and interacting with the Tree of Whispers will activate the Whispers of the Dead endgame bounty system.

What Are Grim Favors in Diablo 4?

Grim Favors are a type of currency that you give to the Tree of Whispers in exchange for reward caches. You need 10 Grim Favors to get a reward cache.

Each Whisper of the Dead objective will grant you Grim Favors for completing them. The amount of Grim Favors you receive depends on the type of objective you complete.

You must have a total of 10 Grim Favors to get a reward cache from the Tree of Whispers. Once you have obtained 10 Grim Favors, you can’t get any more and must spend them at the Tree of Whispers.

Tree of Whispers Rewards

Completing Whispers of the Dead requests will grant you a choice of one of three reward caches.

The type of reward cache available to you is selected randomly from the following:

  • Collection of One-Handed Weapons
  • Collection of Two-Handed Weapons
  • Collection of Amulets
  • Collection of Boots
  • Collection of Chaos (random assortment of items from all other available collections)
  • Collection of Chest Armors
  • Collection of Gloves
  • Collection of Helms
  • Collection of Leg Armors
  • Collection of Rings

These collections also have a chance to be ‘Greater’, which increases your chances of finding Legendary and higher-tier gear upon opening.

In addition, opening reward caches can also give you Gems, and Nightmare Sigils, which are needed to complete Nightmare Dungeons.
