The iconic and terrifying Butcher is back in Diablo 4 and is ready to ruin your Dungeon delving. After first appearing in Diablo 1, players can once again hear its screams for fresh meat.

If you’re interested in hunting this terrifying mini-boss down and reaping its impressive loot for yourself, here’s absolutely everything you need to know.

Where to Find The Butcher in Diablo 4

The Butcher does not have a set spawn and will appear completely randomly and unprompted in Diablo 4. Unfortunately, this means there is no way to manually summon it.

Additionally, the Butcher only appears in Dungeons, not the open world. It can appear in any of the rooms within a Dungeon regardless of how much of it you’ve cleared.

So, if you do want to encounter the Butcher, the best way is to grind the many side dungeons until it shows up.

The Butcher will despawn if you die while fighting it or take too long to kill it. This means you’ll have to wait for it to randomly respawn to fight it again.

How to Beat the Butcher in Diablo 4

The Butcher deals deadly damage and has ridiculously high HP. While running away is encouraged, if you want to fight it, this is the best way to defeat the Butcher:

  • Fight it as a group.
  • Use the best Barbarian build to inflict heavy DPS.
  • Avoid its front and attack from behind.
  • Use movement abilities to avoid its charge attack.

If you want to stand a chance at beating the Butcher in Diablo 4, you must avoid its front at all costs. It is where most of its attacks come from, which will deal deadly damage if they hit you.

Additionally, you need to use movement abilities such as the Rogue’s Dash or Sorcerer’s Teleport to dodge its charge attack. If you haven’t upgraded any defensive skills, it can kill you in one hit.

Consider bringing allies while exploring Dungeons, as it will make defeating the Butcher easier. Having at least a Sorcerer to deal elemental damage from afar and a Barbarian to take the brunt of the hits will significantly even the odds.

Finally, there is a way to cheese the fight and freeze the Butcher in place, allowing you to hit it without being attacked.

To do this glitch, leave the room it spawns in and wait for it to follow you. As it tries to go through the door, its AI will glitch, causing it to stay in place and allow you to chip away at its health bar until it dies.

This glitch will likely be patched soon. So, if you want the achievement of killing the Butcher, you should try this as soon as possible.

What Rewards Does the Butcher Drop in Diablo 4?: How to Get The Butcher’s Cleaver

The Butcher will drop the following items in Diablo 4:

  • One or two Legendary items
  • Gold
  • EXP

It also has a low chance of dropping this:

  • The Butcher’s Cleaver
    • A Unique Axe for the Barbarian. It has the ability Lucky Hit which has a 100% chance to inflict Fear and Slow by 70% on enemies for four seconds.

The chance of the Butcher dropping The Butcher’s Cleaver is very low and isn’t guaranteed. It is unknown if it has a higher chance of dropping for Barbarians than any other class.
