Blizzard has just revealed new details about the first wave of content for Diablo 4 that will come in the form of the Season of the Malignant.

This seasonal content will revolve around players fighting a Malignant corruption that is spreading throughout the world of Sanctuary.

Once Diablo 4 Season 1 launches on July 20, players will face Corrupted enemies and earn new Malignant powers. Additionally, the saviors of Sanctuary will fight a new boss and explore new enemy-infested tunnels.

Malignant Hearts

One of the seasonal mechanics that the Season of the Malignant will introduce in Diablo 4 is the addition of 32 powerful Malignant Hearts.

Malignant Hearts will function as gems that players can place into Infested sockets from various Jewelry they earn during the season.

The first season will introduce 32 brand new Malignant Heart powers that fall into four different categories.

As the season progresses, players will encounter more powerful Malignant Creatures and, in turn, more powerful abilities.

Players will need to create a new seasonal character once the season begins to take advantage of these additions.

Malignant Hearts are not available for any of the characters that you created prior to the Season of the Malignant.

Blizzard hasn’t fully revealed all the details regarding Malignant Hearts in the Season of the Malignant yet, but we will update this article as soon as they do.

Partly Corrupted & Malignant Tunnels

Partly Corrupted are a new enemy coming with the Season of the Malginant that will serve as the catalyst from which players will obtain Malignant Hearts.

Players will need to find these Partly Corrupted enemies and use the Cage of Binding, unlocked from the new questline.

This will turn the enemies into Fully Corrupted enemies that players can defeat to earn a Malignant Heart that they can use to socket into their Jewelrey.

Players can find these new enemies in the Malignant Tunnels, a new replayable dungeon with plenty of fearsome foes.

New Boss Battle – Varshan the Consumed

The Diablo 4 Season of the Malignant will also introduce a ruthless new boss for adventurers to take down with Varshan the Consumed.

Not much is known about this potential boss fight besides the fact that players may find it lurking in the Malignant Tunnels of Sanctuary.
