The Midwinter Blight is a brand new Seasonal event coming to Diablo 4 Season 2 in December. It’s the first holiday-themed event to come to the game.

It joins one of the many new additions of Season 2 and looks to give you yet another reason to delve into the demon-infested world of Sanctuary.

When Can You Play Midwinter Blight? – Start & End Date

Update: The Midwinter Blight event is now live!

You can play the Midwinter Blight event from December 12, 2023, until January 2, 2024.

The Midwinter Blight will go live at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET / 6 PM GMT on December 12 and end on January 2 at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET / 6 PM GMT.

That should give players three full weeks of demon-slaying before they have to put the event behind them!

What is the Midwinter Blight?

The Midwinter Blight is a limited-time Seasonal event for Diablo 4 Season 2. It has players battling a new evil that has befallen the Fractured Peaks amid a devastating storm that has taken over the region.

Here’s everything included in the event:

  • It takes place in the Fractured Peaks region, which is enveloped in a freezing storm
    • Similar to Helltides and Blood Harvests, the Midwinter Blight event area is marked on the map. It’s signified by a purple color:

  • You will encounter a new character, Gileon the Bard
    • His role is to uplift the citizens of Sanctuary. He enlists your aid in confronting the evil that has befallen the land
    • To start the Midwinter Blight, you’ll need to talk to Gileon. He’s located at the Midwinter Square in Kyovoshad

  • Unlock rewards and upgrade the Midwinter Square by defeating enemies and gaining resources
    • There will be new quests and activities to do while taking part in the Midwinter Blight

  • While in the event area, you will face a new type of enemy, Frigid Husks and Blight Fiends
    • Defeating these enemies will reward you with specific resources needed to upgrade the Midwinter Square and to obtain Midwinter Proofs to get cosmetic rewards

  • There will be a new boss to face during the event, the Red-Cloaked Horror
    • He will often appear while you’re exploring the Fractured Peaks region during the event
    • Defeating him has a chance to reward you with powerful loot

The Midwinter Blight has a variety of rewards that you can use outside of the event. Here are all the rewards we know of so far:

  • Participating in the event will reward you with various cosmetics for your weapons
    • You will gain Blighted Fragments for defeating Blight Fiends, Lost Heirlooms for defeating Husks, and a Red-Cloaked Trophy for defeating the Red-Cloaked Horror during the Midwinter Blight
    • You can exchange these for Midwinter Proofs at the Collection Table in the Midwinter Square in Kyovashad for an assortment of cosmetic transmogs
    • There are 14 weapon cosmetics available across all classes

  • You also gain access to a variety of Back Trophies
    • You can unlock these with Midwinter Proofs
    • There are 5 Back Trophies to unlock in total

  • The event will introduce an exclusive Gileon’s Brew Elixir that will give you a 15% bonus XP gain
    • It will also increase your Maximum Life and Lucky Hit Chance by 15%

  • The Midwinter Blight will also introduce a brand new Midwinter-specific Offensive Aspect called the Shard of Dawn to assign to your gear
    • It will give you a significant increase to your Attack Speed and Movement Speed

It’s important to note that, once acquired, Elixirs and Aspects will persist. You can equip and use the new Seasonal Aspect and Elixirs outside of the Midwinter Blight event and after it ends on January 2.

However, they can only be acquired during the event itself, so it’s best to stock up on as much of both as you can while it lasts.
