Some Diablo 4 players have accidentally bought the same cosmetics multiple times during the Midwinter Blight holiday event – read on to find out how to avoid this mistake!
The cause of this common error is mainly due to the game’s unhelpful UI. It doesn’t clearly signify whether or not you previously purchased the same cosmetic.
Thankfully there is a way to avoid this frustrating mistake so you don’t have to waste spending your Midwinter Proofs!
How to Avoid Buying The Same Cosmetics Twice
To avoid purchasing the same cosmetics multiple times, you need to select the cosmetic item while browsing the event Vendor’s wares and read the tooltip to see if you already own it.
Follow these steps:
- Speak with the event Vendor, Gileon, and select the “Open event shop” option
- You can find him in the Midwinter Square, to the left of the Kyovashad Waypoint:
- Select a cosmetic item with your cursor to look at its tooltip info
- More information will appear on the side of the Vendor’s pop-up menu
- Look out for “Already Owned” in the bottom right area of the tooltip info
- Here is a side-by-side comparison of a cosmetic that is already owned and one that has not yet been purchased:
Make sure to look out for the “Already Owned” text, as it’s easy to miss! Hopefully, this will save you some Midwinter Proof.
Players Are Wasting Midwinter Proofs on the Same Cosmetic Items
Players are reporting that they have wasted their hard-earned Midwinter Proofs by accidentally spending them on the same cosmetic items more than once.
This is because the new Midwinter Blight cosmetics remain in Gileon’s shop, even after you’ve purchased them:
As the Reddit user above indicates, the new cosmetics are removed from the shop once you purchase them but are added in again when you log back into the game. No wonder so many are confused!

The user interface is also adding to the confusion, as it doesn’t clearly communicate that you already own the cosmetic. This information only appears in the bottom right of the item’s tooltip description and is easy to miss.
It’s very frustrating, as it can take quite a while to gather enough of the Blighted Fragments, Lost Heirlooms, and Red-Cloaked Trophies needed to earn Midwinter Proof.
The cosmetic items you can purchase in the Midwinter Blight aren’t cheap either, ranging from 20-50 Midwinter Proof per item.
If you accidentally repurchase the same cosmetic, you can’t sell or salvage it. You must either keep it in your stash indefinitely or drop it on the floor.
Hopefully, players can use the above method to avoid buying the same cosmetics twice!
