What is the Abattoir of Zir?

The Abattoir of Zir is a 25-Tier seasonal event in Diablo 4 that sees players defeating waves of enemies to summon and defeat a boss. After doing so, you can access and upgrade a Unique Paragon Glyph.

Here’s everything we know about the Abattoir of Zir so far:

  • Players need to complete seven chapters of the Season Journey to access it
  • It has 25 Tiers that increase in difficulty as you progress to each Tier
    • Tier one would be roughly what you would experience in a Tier 104 Nightmare Dungeon
    • Developers revealed the difference between each level is more drastic than what players are used to in Nightmare Dungeons
  • Each run has a randomized layout and enemy positioning
  • Similar to Greater Rifts from Diablo 3. You have 10 minutes to kill enough enemies to spawn a boss. Killing the boss ends the event
  • Completing the event for the first time will reward you with the Tears of Blood Unique Paragon Glyph. You can upgrade this Glyph by completing further Abattoir of Zir events
  • Finishing Tier 1 grants 1000 XP, allowing you to upgrade the Tears of Blood Glyph or any other glyph of your choice

Fans of Diablo 3 will see the similarities with Greater Rifts, as they both require players to kill a certain amount of enemies within a set time limit.

It’s important to note that the Abattoir of Zir event is intended for high-level players only. To attempt this content, you should already be level 100, be comfortable with completing Tier 100 Nightmare Dungeons, and have an optimized endgame build.

Start & End Date

The Abattoir of Zir will be available when patch 1.2.3 releases on December 5. Devs mentioned the event would be available until “closer to the end of Season 2”.

Based on this statement, it is expected that players will be able to access this event until roughly the first half of January 2023. Despite having an end date, Blizzard has expressed interest in bringing it back based on player feedback.
