You need to complete Chapter Objectives to progress through the Season Journey. It’s necessary as a way to earn rewards in the Season 1 Battle Pass.

“A Boon in the Tide’ is a Chapter 5 Objective that tasks you with opening any Tortured Gift Chest during a Helltide. Many players report that they cannot complete the objective, despite fulfilling its requirements.

Thankfully, there are a few ways you might be able to fix the bug. Below, we review all the known fixes that have worked for players for the “A Boon in the Tide” bug in Diablo 4.

How to Fix A Boon in the Tide Bug Diablo 4

There are a few ways in which you may be able to fix the “A Boon in the Tide” bug in Diablo 4.

Some players have reported that the following methods have worked for them:

  1. Open different Tortured Gift Chests during a Helltide event
    • Some players are reporting that they were able to complete the “A Boon in the Tide” objective by experimenting with opening different Tortured Gifts chests during a Helltide
    • It’s important to distinguish between the different types of Tortured Gift chests:
      • Tortured Gift of Mysteries: 250 Aberrant Cinders to open
      • Tortured Gift of Jewelry (Rings): 75 Aberrant Cinders to open
      • Tortured Gift of Jewelry (Amulets): 125 Aberrant Cinders to open
      • Tortured Gift of Protection (Armor): 75 Aberrant Cinders to open
      • Tortured Gift of Weaponry (Light): 125 Aberrant Cinders to open
      • Tortured Gift of Weaponry (Heavy):150 Aberrant Cinders to open
    • It’s recommended to avoid opening the Tortured Gift of Mysteries first and to prioritize the other types initially
      • The bug seems to have something to do with the Tortured Gifts of Mysteries (see below)

  1. Try opening Tortured Gift Chests in multiple Helltide events
    • It seems as though the bug could be related to certain Helltide events
    • When a Helltide event occurs, it spawns in a random region of Diablo 4’s map
      • Opening chests during these different Helltide events has seemingly fixed this issue for some players

  1. Reboot Diablo 4
    • The classic “turn it off and on again” method
      • Restarting Diablo 4 and connecting to a different server may help in getting this objective completed

It’s important to note that the above fixes are not guaranteed. Your mileage may vary when it comes to fixing the “A Boon in the Tide” bug.

If you’re still having trouble, your best bet is to ignore the objective for now.

To get the rewards for Chapter 5 you only need to complete nine out of eleven objectives. After this, you can move on to Chapter 6.

If none of the above fixes work for you, you may have to wait for Blizzard to fix this bug in an upcoming patch for Diablo 4.

What is A Boon in the Tide Bug in Diablo 4?

The “A Boon in the Tide” bug in Diablo 4 prevents players from completing an objective in Chapter 5 of the Season Journey in the Season of the Malignant.

Players are finding this particularly frustrating. It hampers progression for Season 1 and also locks you out of earning the Favor you’d usually get for completing objectives.

The “A Boon in the Tide” Objective is in Chapter 5 of Diablo 4’s Season 1.

Some fans believe the bug to be a result of a similar objective that can also be found in Chapter 5 which involves opening a Tortured Gifts of Mystery Chest. For clarification, here are the descriptions for both Objectives, found in Chapter 5:

  • A Boon in the Tide – Open one Tortured Gift of any type during a Helltide.
  • Prophecy Manifest – Open a Tortured Gift of Mystery during a Helltide.

It appears that the issue could be a result of a bug regarding the Tortured Gift of Mystery Chests not counting for the “A Boon in the Tide” objective when opened, and preventing all other attempts at opening all other Helltide chests.

This Reddit user avoided the problem entirely by opening a ‘basic’ Helltide Tortured Gift Chest first, before opening a Chest of Mystery.

Fortunately, many players have posted about this bug on Blizzard’s forums and socials. They recently replied to a Tweet about the issue:

As Blizzard Entertainment’s President Mike Ybarra mentions above, the “A Boon in the Tide” bug is being looked into by the team, with an estimated fix dated August 15. You may have to hold out until then.
