A brand-new teaser for Hogwarts Legacy teases our Defense Against the Dark Arts lessons and appears to confirm 4 spells we’ll learn in that class.

Hogwarts Legacy is one of our most anticipated games in recent history, and, although the title will no longer be released in 2022, we’re still eagerly following the title for every little hint of what’s to come.

For Harry Potter fans, this looks to be the game we’ve been waiting for. And if you’ve ever wanted to just explore Hogwarts and its grounds or roleplay as one of its students, this could be the game for you too.

Recently, the team at Avalanche Software has begun revealing some exclusive clips of the upcoming release on social media. And in a recent clip of the Defense Against the Dark Arts class, we get a sneak peek at what we might learn there.

What Spells Will We Learn in Defense Against the Dark Arts Class?

In a new teaser for Defense Against the Dark Arts, Avalanche Software teases 4 spells that we will likely learn in this class:

  • Petrificus Totalus
  • Rictusempra
  • Riddikulus
  • Stupefy

Petrificus Totalus

The full body-bind curse, Petrificus Totalus, is a spell that causes its target to completely paralyze its target. Although a person’s eyes can move freely when affected by the curse, the rest of their body becomes stiff and their limbs snap together.

Rictusempra

The tickling charm Rictusempra does more than just make its target laugh. Hitting an opponent with Rictusempra will cause them to buckle over in laughter, preventing them from focussing on combat temporarily.

Riddikulus

The Boggart-banishing spell, Ridikulus’ inclusion on the list seems to all but confirm the existence of Boggarts in Hogwarts Legacy. As creatures that take on the appearance of a person’s worst fear, Boggarts can be tricky to fight.

However, Riddikulus causes a Boggart to take on a form that’s humorous to the caster instead, allowing witches and wizards to defeat the creature with laughter.

Stupefy

The stunning spell Stupefy sends out a red bolt of light that stuns its target and can render them unconscious. Because of its utility, it is commonly seen as a non-lethal way of ending duels quickly.

What Is Defense Against the Dark Arts in Hogwarts Legacy?

Defense Against the Dark Arts is a class attended by Hogwarts students that teaches pupils how to defend themselves from dark creatures, curses, hexes, and jinxes. It also is sometimes used to instruct students on how to duel against one another.

Tom Riddle (AKA Lord Voldemort) would later allegedly put a jinx on the position, meaning that no professor could hold the post for longer than a year without suffering an unpleasant fate.

However, as Hogwarts Legacy takes place in the late 1800s, the antagonist of the Harry Potter franchise is yet to even be born, and the position is (presumably) safe.

Who Teaches Defense Against the Dark Arts in Hogwarts Legacy?

Hogwarts Legacy’s Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher is Professor Hecat.

Not much is known about the professor right now, but a new Instagram post draws attention to the fact that she has the skeleton of a Hebridean Black dragon skeleton hanging in her classroom.

We can’t take this new teaser as direct confirmation that all these spells will be taught in our Defense Against the Dark Arts classes, but all are very likely to be in the game.

Earlier this week, fans even discovered a brand-new mechanic coming to the Harry Potter game. All we can say to Avalanche Software is to keep the teases coming!
