Cyberpunk 2077: How to Free Brick in ‘The Pickup’

Cyberpunk 2077's Act 1 mission 'The Pickup' has many players confused as to how it's possible to free Brick. Here's how to complete the optional objective.

Like any good RPG, Cyberpunk 2077 often comes with branching mission paths and optional objectives. You don't have to go out of your way to accomplish these tasks, but there will always be some bonus rewards waiting for you if you do.

One famous optional task is found in Act 1's 'The Pickup' quest. In this mission, V and Jackie are tasked with meeting with Royce to obtain the Flathead.

Although Cyberpunk 2077 is basically unplayable on PS4 and Xbox One, most users will probably get to this early game mission before giving up. If you're experiencing issues with the game, here's how to fix Cyberpunk 2077's crashing problems.

There are a handful of ways to complete your task, some using more violence than others. You can side with Militech, side with Maelstrom, or go in guns blazing.

For this optional quest, the only method that doesn't work is paying Royce 10,000 EuroDollars of your own money to let you walk out of there. But you were never going to pick that option anyway.

Cyberpunk 2077 Walkthrough: How to Free Brick

First of all, the way you'll be able to free Maelstrom's former leader Brick all depends on your current stats. Going into the mission, if you don't have 7 points in your Intelligence stat, you're going to need to shoot Royce.

If you do have the required skills, it doesn't matter if you instead side with Royce and give him the decrypted Militech credchip. Once you've done your deal and acquired the Flathead, it's time to explore.

Take the yellow ladder in the corner and head through the door. You'll need to clamber up on a series of boxes to turn on a production line here.

Step through the gap, dropping down in the next area, and you'll see a hole in the metal walkway. In the following room, there are going to be some enemy Maelstrom members or Militech guards, depending on your allegiances.

Either stealth past the enemies or take them all out. On the left side of the room, there's a door to go through on the upper level, leading to a very trapped Brick.

The former Maelstrom boss will call out for help, and setting him free is an easy task. On a nearby laptop, you can check the messages to uncover the code to Brick's cell.

Before unlocking the cell, grab the detonator from the nearby countertop. Players can choose to detonate Brick right here, but you'd be better off disarming the device.

Some Cyberpunk 2077 players are reporting that they cannot interact with the detonator when siding with Royce. If this is the case, the detonator can be hacked, but only if you have sufficient Intelligence.

After that, enter code 9691 to unlock the door and set Brick free. It's also possible to hack the door and deactivate it remotely.

Talking to him will complete your optional objective, and the Maelstrom boss will tell you that he has you covered the next time the two of you meet.

So far, we're yet to encounter Brick in the game's storyline again, but we'd wager that he shows up at some point.

Today, Cyberpunk 2077 got a new fix patch which is helping improve performance and graphics on PS4 and PC. This could be the beginning of CD Projekt stepping its game up.

After all, despite excellent reviews, Cyberpunk 2077 has some dire issues. The game's launch is such a disaster that CD Projekt's share prices are dropping fast.

But despite a buggy game and poor console performance, Cyberpunk 2077 is still one of the best games of 2020. With immersive missions and incredible graphics possible on high-end PCs, this game has some real potential to be great.
