Outbreak Mode - Ammo Mods And Field Upgrades
There are a number of steps that we recommend you take before jumping into Outbreak mode. In order to survive Outbreak's high rounds, you'll need to make sure you are properly equipped.
For starters, we definitely recommend you take the Cryo-Freeze ammo mod with you into Outbreak. It can provide you with a very handy slow which can even spread to other enemies at higher tiers.
Of course, if you feel more comfortable with another ammo mod, feel free to swap out and experiment for yourself. However, be aware that this mod is vital for this particular strategy.
Alongside this, we recommend the Frenzied Guard field upgrade. This piece of equipment allows you to better kite zombies and at later levels can even make them explode whilst repairing your armor.
If you are finding you are lacking the Aetherium crystals needed to upgrade your skills to higher tiers, we've got you covered. Here is our guide on how to get Flawless and Refined Aetherium Crystals fast.
Outbreak Mode - Weapon Skills and Perks
As for skills, we highly recommend maxing out the shotgun skill to tier five as quickly as you can. This will grant you a massive additional 25% bonus critical damage at max tier.
Furthermore, at the moment the Hauer 77 is extremely powerful once Pack-A-Punched. Alternatively, you may want to see if you can pull off this glitch which allows you to carry both the Ray Gun and R.A.I K-84.
Finally, for your perks, you will definitely want to max out the Jugger-Nog to tier five. The extra armor durability is crucial and also grants the player a free dying wish just for having a Jugger-Nog.
If you want to know how to get free perks in Cold War Outbreak mode. You can check out our guide here, just make sure to upgrade the important ones to max tier.
As always, play about with whatever you feel most comfortable with. To survive in Outbreak's high rounds you may prefer a tier five Quick Revive for instance.
At the end of the day, it's what works best for you. However, there are some perks that can help you survive better in Outbreak's high rounds. If you prefer to use an LMG you may want to upgrade your Speed Cola instead.
Outbreak Mode Survival - Early Rounds
If you have been following our guide up till now, you may have maxed out your shotgun skill to tier five. In order to survive Outbreak's high rounds, you will want to start the game with a shotgun.
The Gallo SA12 or Hauer 77 are good picks for a well-rounded starting weapon. However, personally, we would recommend the Hauer 77 if you have it unlocked.
As for attachments, anything that grants additional bullet velocity or bullet damage is a perfect choice. The Hauer 77 already has significant damage output, but the right attachments can make a key difference.
Furthermore, you are going to want to take an attachment that increases your magazine size. The issue with the Hauer 77 is it's rather slow reload-speed, so this should help tremendously.
Once you are in the match, you will want to quickly locate your side quest objectives. Completing one side quest objective at least before moving onto world tier two is essential.
The rewards granted from side quest objectives are very helpful indeed. It can include free perks, armor, and even better weapons to help you on your way.
A good way to pick up some extra cash is to use jump pads. By collecting the points canisters you can double your money. However, there is also a glitch that allows you to use the jump-pad for free. This means even more money.
If you're playing with friends, the secret to getting to Outbreaks high rounds effectively is to split up. Whilst you are roaming around, a teammate can be working on a trial or an event around the map.
Round 1 of Outbreak is by far the easiest round, obviously. However, this means that you can leisurely pick up upgrades and free perks safely. Once you are feeling better equipped you will want to take on the main objective.
Outbreak Mode Survival - Early Round Objectives
Another key tip for surviving Outbreak mode's higher rounds is to make sure you are picking up everything you can during the earlier rounds. For example, you will want to open chests and collect a ton of salvage for later.
However, be aware that you will want to make sure you are avoiding the hidden mimics. If you aren't sure how to tell, check out our guide on how to avoid hidden mimics in Outbreak mode.
The best way to earn points is to make sure you are doing an event whilst killing zombies. Simply free-roaming will not earn you many points.
Did you also know that once you've completed the main objective you can lie down in front of the wonder-fizz machine and be able to pick up a free 100 points?
However, before you leave round one make sure you have Pack-A-Punched your Hauer 77 to tier 1 and picked up a Jugger-Nog. This will give you a big advantage in the next round.
Once you feel properly equipped you may be ready to start moving towards the mid-game rounds. Make sure to spend some of your salvage to get some useful pickups and armor upgrades, however.
Furthermore, be advised, if you have managed to grab a Death Machine, by moving to the next round it will reset its ammo. This is a very powerful technique that should also help in Outbreak's higher rounds.
Outbreak Mode Survival - Mid-Game
Before you reach the mid-game section, you'll be wanting to prioritize perk pickups. World tiers 2 and 3 should be focused on earning enough cash to afford the different perks.
After you've got these perks, you'll be much better equipped for Outbreak's higher rounds. Make sure to continue to upgrade your equipment, such as tier 2 armor when and where you can.
At world tier 3 your tier 1 Hauer 77 will still be outputting a ton of damage, so you don't need to worry so much about that right now. However, your goal should be to Pack-A-Punch this to tier 2 before entering world tier 4.
The key to mid-game rounds is not to spend salvage unnecessarily. You may be tempted to pick up a few scorestreaks to help you out, however, they do not come cheap.
You will need to save salvage and use it effectively in order to survive Outbreak's higher rounds later. The salvage is better used in order to get tier 3 armor or a rarity upgrade for your Hauer 77 (which is still viable).
Interestingly enough, Treyarch has recently teased new Zombies content coming for Season 3. You may want to take a look at all of the additional upgrades coming in the future.
At mid-game, your priority should be to complete your perk upgrades and also get to tier 3 Pack-A-Punch. Personally, tier 3 Pack-A-Punch is a better goal to aim for considering perks can sometimes be picked up elsewhere.
Outbreak Mode Survival - Mid-Game Focus
At mid-game of Outbreak mode, you will want to use the trial machines more often than in earlier rounds. The cost will be giving you greater pickups compared to earlier rounds.
If you can, try and aim for a legendary reward as this has the chance to give the R.A.I K-84 or Ray Gun pick up. These guns are essential for Outbreak's higher rounds.
If you are struggling with this, you can also check out our guide on how to get the Ray Gun, R.A.I K-84, and D.I.E Shockwave in Outbreak mode. Trust us, you'll need it sooner or later.
Mid-game is all about fully equipping yourself for Outbreak's higher rounds. The late game is the hardest and most frustrating difficulty of Outbreak mode.
In order to be ready for the late game, you're going to want to make sure you have a check-list of the things you'll need. If you've lost a perk for example make sure you replenish it, Stamin-Up is a given at this point.
Craft a self-revive as this can be a game-changer and if you have any left-over scrap, make sure you finally invest that into some killstreaks as this can also save you in a pinch.
The chopper-gunner killstreak is particularly important as this will allow you to become invulnerable. Make sure to use it as a get-out-of-jail-free card.
Outbreak Mode Survival - High Rounds
At the higher rounds of Outbreak mode is where you'll really need to focus. This is where the game becomes very difficult. At this point you should have maxed Pack-A-Punched guns, tier upgrades as well as tier 3 armor.
Now you should be powerful enough to take down some of the toughest enemies Outbreak has to offer. If you check your map and there is an icon with three skulls, you'll be able to get some great rewards, just be careful.
The high-round gameplay revolves around making sure you have a R.A.I K-84. This gun is essential to surviving in Outbreak's higher rounds. But what do you now need to do to get through the higher rounds successfully?
One pro tip is to make sure you are clearing the areas of zombies before you activate any objectives. The R.A.I K-84 should also be used to slow enemies whilst teammates focus on putting out the damage.
The Cryo-Freeze upgrade really helps at higher rounds due to the fact it can slow the super sprinters right down. It really helps you to avoid getting hit and it can pull you out of harm's way quite easily.
At higher rounds, you should focus primarily on completing the main objectives. There is little need to do anything else as this will get you the most points, at this stage you should be fully kitted out anyway.
Outbreak Mode - High Rounds Tips
There are some other important tips that will help you survive Outbreak's higher rounds. If you are completing an escort mission, get a friend to pull up in a car, jump on the bonnet and you can be driven to the objective.
For defense objectives, actually letting enemies swarm around the objective can really help you. Although it's tempting to not allow any damage, you can easily line up kills using this method.
If you're tempted to exfil at any point, make sure to drop a monkey at your feet as this should target the zombies you need to kill. If you then use your chopper gunner you can easily finish off the rest whilst invulnerable.
