Find out everything you need to know about Cold War Zombies' brand new mode - Outbreak.
Black Ops Cold War Zombies is getting a new game mode soon. Launching as part of Season 2, this large-scale Zombies experience is unlike anything seen before.
A new blog post from Treyarch revealed everything fans can expect in the Cold War Zombies Outbreak Mode.
What is Cold War Zombies Outbreak?
Cold War Zombies' new Outbreak mode is similar to classic Zombies, but on a massive scale. Teams of up to 4 players will drop into various locations across the Ural Mountains to fight zombies in the largest outbreak zone on the planet.
The mode will also be free for anyone to play at launch thanks to the Black Ops Cold War Free Access Week.
Outbreak also continues the Dark Aether storyline. The Ural Mountains could apparently hold the secrets behind the Dark Aether which could help decide the outcome of the Cold War.

The mode also encourages exploration. Expect to find random encounters, extra loot, and Trial Computers across the map.
Cold War Zombies Outbreak Objectives
Players start a game of Outbreak by helicoptering into the Ural Mountains with a custom loadout of their choosing. From there, they will have a primary objective to complete in addition to being able to explore the map.
The primary objectives include protecting a computer uploading Aetherium data, escorting a rover that detects portals, and eliminating mini-bosses. Hopefully, this will be enough of a challenge for Cold War Zombies players who want harder bosses.
Once the objective is complete then players can head to the exfil zone, but failing an objective will result in a game over.
How To Exfil in Zombies Outbreak
After completing an objective, players will be given a difficult choice. They can exfil or use their resources to purchase upgrades and attempt another objective.
If players choose to exfil, they will have to clear the lading area for a helicopter to pick them up. However, if players want to carry on, they can hop through a dimensional portal to another Outbreak zone where they will be given another objective.
Players can tackle as many objectives as they want, but each one gets progressively harder. Therefore, it's important to exfil at the right time to get additional rewards.
New Aetherium Crystals
Players can also be rewarded with new rare Aetherium Crystals. They can be used to upgrade Weapon Classes, Field Upgrades, Perks, and Ammo Mods even further than before.
