Sledgehammer Games, the development team behind the next Call of Duty, is reportedly working on Modern Warfare 3, contradicting previous reports suggesting no new full CoD title will release in 2023.
Fans of the rebooted series will be thrilled to hear that the third installment is on its way, complete with zombies and a brand new Warzone map.
While Activision had initially planned to release a DLC for MW2 instead, it seems plans have changed, and we can expect to see Modern Warfare 3 hitting our screens this year.
Call of Duty 2023 to Be Named Modern Warfare 3
Insider Gaming has reported that Modern Warfare 3 will release on November 10, 2023. The game will reportedly contain a Campaign, Multiplayer, a new large scale Warzone map and Zombies.
Sledgehammer Games will spearhead the development of the third game in the refreshed Modern Warfare franchise. However, they will also have support from other studios, such as Infinity Ward and Treyarch.
Those looking forward to an official announcement may have to wait till August for a Warzone 2 event revealing CoD 2023.
Las Almas Reportedly Battle Royale Warzone Map for MW3
The leak reveals that the large-scale Battle Royale map in Modern Warfare 3 will be “Las Almas”. They have scheduled the release of this map for MW3 Season 1 on December 5, 2023.
Las Almas is already a feature of the current Call of Duty game. It is currently present as the Multiplayer map “Mercado Las Almas” and the Battle map “Guijarro”.
In the MW2 campaign, players may have a sneak peek at what it will look like when it releases. The “El Sin Nombre Mission” shows gamers a complete map of Las Almas.
This latest information corroborates earlier fan theories that an expansion of the MW2 Battle Map would eventually release in Warzone 2.
MW3 Zombies is Reportedly Outbreak 2.0
In addition, the leak states that Zombies will be part of Modern Warfare 3 and will have a style similar to Treyarch’s Outbreak mode from Black Ops Cold War.
Outbreak was a mode featuring a large-scale, open-world map set in the Ural Mountains of Russia. In this mode, players would complete objectives and survive against waves of zombies that become increasingly difficult with each round.
The idea of this “Outbreak 2.0” being a free-to-play mode has also been floating around. Activision is weighing its options on making it part of the premium release.
This mode was quite popular and with Treyarch helping Sledgehammer Games on Modern Warfare 3, zombie fans will happy they don’t have to wait until 2024 to kill the undead.
