Black Ops 6 Zombies’ new map, Citadelle des Morts, has dropped its cinematic trailer, and we’ve put together a full breakdown of the story so far.
Call of Duty Zombies hasn’t been this good in years, as Treyarch is dropping a third Black Ops 6 undead survival experience in just a few more days.
The developer already knocked it out of the park with Terminus and Liberty Falls, so fans are eagerly awaiting the release of Citadelle des Morts on December 5.
But for those that were confused by the latest cinematic trailer, here’s a full breakdown of everything you need to know about the Citadelle des Morts storyline:
Citadelle des Morts Cinematic Explained
In Black Ops 6, the events of Citadelle des Morts are a direct follow-up to those of Terminus and Liberty Falls.
The two launch maps took place simultaneously on February 19, 1991. Now, just six days after the events of both Main Quests, the Terminus Crew has arrived in the Principality of Avalon on February 25, 1991.
Why Are They Here?
The ex-members of Requiem, Grigori Weaver, Mackenzie Carver, Elizabeth Grey, along with William Peck and newcomer Maya Aguinaldo, are searching for the Sentinel Artifact.
This mysterious artifact, which first appeared in Black Ops 4, is believed to be able to manipulate Prima Materia – the original material of the universe itself.

In the Terminus ending cutscene, the newly-freed members of Requiem and their associates discover that Eddie Richtofen is hunting for the Sentinel Artifact in the Principality of Avalon.
The ex-Requiem Director, who imprisoned our protagonists at the end of Cold War Zombies, has hired the French Syndicate to abduct demonologist Gabriel Krafft and interrogate him to find the artifact’s location.
The man actually doing the interrogating is Sergei Ravenov, a former Spetsnaz operative who assisted Requiem back in Firebase Z (Cold War Zombies).
Citadelle des Morts Cinematic Explained
During the Citadelle des Morts cinematic trailer, the Zombies Crew of Weaver, Carver, Grey, Aguinaldo (& now William Peck), head to Avalon.
There, they encounter Ravenov near a medieval castle, as he drinks and reflects on his past.

Despite his suspicions about the team working with Peck, Ravenov tells them that the French Syndicate was paid millions of dollars (presumably by Richtofen) to get Gabriel Krafft to reveal the location of the Sentinel Artifact.
However, even Ravenov has been unable to get the demonologist to talk – and he’s clearly starting to hate his job. After hearing that Krafft may hold the key to bringing back Samantha Maxis, he’s persuaded to assist the Zombies Crew.

Immediately afterward, zombies burst through the windows and are dispatched by Aguinaldo and Ravenov.
Weaver then instructs Ravenov to direct them to Krafft on comms, leaving him behind with Peck as the Zombies Crew heads to the castle.
The Objective
On paper, the objectives of the Citadelle des Morts map should be as follows:
- Find and rescue Gabriel Krafft
- Learn the location of the Sentinel Artifact (or possibly even retrieve it)
- Kill Ravenov’s boss (implied by the cinematic trailer)
- Do battle against the undead
- Get one step closer to saving Samantha Maxis
Of course, Black Ops 6 Zombies Main Quests rarely proceed smoothly. There’s still the matter of Dr. Pericles Panos escaping rather maliciously from the Dark Aether at the conclusion of Liberty Falls’ Main Quest to deal with.
What’s more, a shadowy figure lured Dr Ava Jansen, the biological daughter of Samantha Maxis and Sergei Ravenov, into a portal in the final cutscene of MW3 Zombies.
Could Jansen make her return soon, given that Ravenov is back in the story? For now, only time will tell.
Check out everything coming to Black Ops 6 Zombies when Citadelle des Morts arrives, to ensure you’re properly prepared!
