Call of Duty fans are wondering whether their MW2 and MW3 purchases will carry forward to Black Ops 6, and we’ve got the answer!

When Activision released Modern Warfare 3 (2023), it announced that for the first time ever, players would retain their cosmetic items from the previous year’s entry.

Every skin, camo, Operator, and even weapon unlock would already be available in MW3 via the Carry Forward system.

But now that Black Ops 6 is taking over COD HQ, can we expect content to Carry Forward once again, to Call of Duty 2024?

Will MW3 Content Carry Forward?

No, Activision has confirmed that no Call of Duty MW2 or MW3 content will Carry Forward to Black Ops 6.

Of course, with Black Ops 6 having a 90’s setting, no Modern Warfare weapons will be available to use in Multiplayer modes. But it appears that skins and other cosmetics unlocked in MW2 and MW3 will be staying put.

“We want to make sure that everybody starts fresh, together, as we move into an all-new experience with the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6,” a new blog post confirms.

There is one exception to the rule, however. The Vault Edition Woods Operator pack will be available in both Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops 6, acting as the sole piece of Carry Forward content.

COD fans who have purchased cosmetics through the in-game store can still access those items in both their original titles and in Warzone.

Initial reports suggested that MW3 was initially planned as an expansion to MW2, though plans allegedly changed in the months leading to the 2023 release’s launch. As such, it made sense that carrying over content was possible for the first time ever.

However, unless Black Ops 6 is followed by another title developed by Treyarch, we don’t expect Carry Forward to return again anytime soon.

Fans React to Lack of Carry Forward

It seems that the most vocal members of the Call of Duty community are happy with Black Ops 6 being a full reset.

We’re sure some users, particularly those still buying COD bundles this close to a new title’s release, will be frustrated with the lack of Carry Forward.

However, many of the replies on X are from fans who are pleased that the Gulf War won’t immediately contain Gundam, Nicki Minaj, Snoop Dogg, and Homelander.

Of course, Activision will release its usual array of crazy store bundles as time goes on. But it’s always nice to have a glimpse of realism in the early days of a new title’s launch.

Well, as realistic as it can be, considering that those who pre-order Black Ops 6 will get a Zombified Frank Woods skin on day one…
