Capture Points are a new mechanic introduced in Fortnite Chapter 4 that allow players to capture a Point of Interest if they remain inside a circle for a set amount of time.
Claiming a Capture Point will provide players with loot, ping nearby enemies, and even reveal all chests through walls.
What’s more, you’ll now be in control of that specific POI, meaning it can’t be claimed later on by any enemies.
Fortnite: How to Claim a Capture Point
To claim a Capture Point in Fortnite, players need to stand in its designated circle until your team’s banner is raised all the way up.
You’ll know that you’ve successfully claimed the location when you receive a ‘You Claimed’ notification on the left side of your screen.
All chests and enemy players inside the POI’s boundary will then be marked for your whole team.
What’s more, your team’s banners will be put on display for all to see, warning off players who would enter your territory.
Capture Point Rewards
In addition to getting to display your banners above your claimed location, the following rewards will also be granted to teams that claim a Capture Point:
- All chests in the area will be marked for your team
- Additional loot will drop for the successful squad at the base of the banner
- Your team will see exactly where all nearby enemies are with no delay
- You’ll earn some XP
With that in mind, capturing a point in the final circle of the game could easily win you the match, as nobody will be able to enter your POI without being tagged! But it’s unlikely that you’ll find any left to claim by that point.
How Long Does it Take to Claim a Capture Point in Fortnite?
It takes exactly 40 seconds for a player to claim a Capture Point in Fortnite.
However, if an enemy is also present in the area, the capture will be contested and the process will be delayed until they either exit the area or are eliminated.

Do Capture Point Bonuses Last Forever?
No, POIs that are captured by teams will not keep marking the surrounding areas indefinitely.
The ability to see all chests and enemies in the vicinity will only last for around 30 seconds, to prevent it from being completely broken.

Can Another Team Capture a POI After It’s Already Been Claimed?
No, once a POI is claimed by a team, it is theirs forever, however its effects aren’t permanent. You won’t be able to attack a Capture Point displaying enemy banners once it has been fully claimed.
This also prevents points from being captured towards the end of the game, leading to an easy win, unless they weren’t claimed earlier in the match.
