Fortnite Chapter 4 now lets you claim a POI for your own using the new Capture Point mechanic! Here’s how it works:
The best things introduced in Fortnite Chapter 4 are its game-changing mechanics. Epic Games is switching up the way we’re playing its Battle Royale, and keeping each match feeling fresh.
First of all, players can now claim Augments (Perks) throughout their games to give themself a boost mid-match. Check out all Reality Augments currently in Fortnite Chapter 4 here.
And now, here’s a breakdown of how capturing a POI works in the brand-new island.
Fortnite: How to Capture a Point of Interest
To claim a POI for your squad, players need to stand in its designated Capture Point until the ring fills up at the bottom of the screen, and the team banners are raised all the way.
You’ll know that you’ve successfully claimed the location when you receive a ‘You Claimed’ notification on the left side of your screen.
All chests and enemy players inside the POI’s boundary will then be marked for your whole team.
What’s more, your team’s banners will be put on display for all to see, warning off players who would enter your territory.
Capture Point Rewards
In addition to getting to display your banners above your claimed location, the following rewards will also be granted to teams that claim a Capture Point:
- All chests in the area will be marked for your team
- Additional loot will drop for the successful squad at the base of the banner
- Your team will see exactly where all enemies are with no delay
- You’ll earn some XP
With that in mind, capturing a point in the final circles could easily win you the match, as nobody will be able to enter your POI without being tagged! But it’s unlikely that you’ll find any left to claim by that point.
How Long Does it Take to Capture a POI?
A single player standing in the Capture Point will take approximately one minute in order to capture the POI. However, the bar will not fill up when an enemy is also present in the area.
With more teammates helping out, it’s likely that the necessary time reduces somewhat.
Do Claimed POIs Last Forever?
No, POIs that are captured by teams will not keep marking the surrounding areas indefinitely. The ability to see all chests and enemies in the vicinity will only last for around 30 seconds, to prevent it from being completely broken.
Can Another Team Capture a POI After It’s Already Been Claimed?
No, once a POI is claimed by a team, it is theirs forever, however its effects aren’t permanent. You won’t be able to attack a Capture Point displaying enemy banners once it has been fully claimed.
This also prevents points from being captured towards the end of the game, leading to an easy win, unless they weren’t claimed earlier in the match.
