The Infinity Ward press event has confirmed that Modern Warfare will not feature a mini-map. However, it appears as though the traditional feature will be included within competitive Call of Duty, following a new comment from Infinity Ward’s Multiplayer Design Director ‘Geoffrey Smith’.
In response to a direct message from one eager fan, Smith has supposedly announced that the mini-map will be available in Competitive play. This cannot be officially confirmed as of the time writing this, however.
Although it’s a very minor
Admittedly, it does make sense for Activision to include a mini-map within the competitive play. It’s important that no drastic changes are made to competitive especially, while pros need to remain familiar with each installment of the franchise.
For a while now, there have been concerns as to whether not including a mini-map will slow down the pace of the game by prompting players to camp more. The vast majority of the competitive community have been frustrated at the prospect of no mini-map, but luckily this won’t be the case.
As for public Multiplayer, it’s not as if standard players have no way to navigate either. Instead of the traditional mini-map, there is a long compass featured at the top of the screen in a bid to provide an insight into the direction of bullets. The compass aspect has been deemed as somewhat similar to a mini-map. It has more strategic connotations, however.
Modern Warfare is scheduled to be revealed on August 1st. And you’re in for a treat.
