Despite Call of Duty’s yearly release cycle, WW2 Vanguard may not actually launch in 2021.
Earlier this year, new leaks revealed that Call of Duty: WW2 Vanguard was set to be the series’ 2021 release. With Sledgehammer Games developing the title, it was said to be the developer’s second recent game taking place during the Second World War.
However, it didn’t take long before rumors started to gain a little negativity. Given that Sledgehammer Games were originally taken off Black Ops Cold War thanks to an internal struggle, fans have been wondering if it’s up to the task this time around.
In March, leaks revealed that WW2 Vanguard would run on this older game engine. And then only a week later, another insider leak told us that Call of Duty: WW2 Vanguard is a ‘disaster‘ of a project.
But if all this isn’t enough to put you off the game, even before launch, WW2 Vanguard may not even release in 2021.
WW2 Vanguard Delayed From 2021 Release Date?
According to a shocking new leak, Call of Duty: WW2 Vanguard may not release in 2021 at all.
Despite leakers being certain of Activision’s plans to release WW2 Vanguard, it may not be ready for a release this year. And that’s saying a lot, especially considering the buggy and content-lacking release of Black Ops Cold War last year.
According to TheMW2Ghost, a trusted leaker on Twitter: “There is still no certain release date for Vanguard.”
Allegedly, this is the latest that a firm decision hasn’t been made about a release, and it doesn’t bode well for the WW2 title. The leaker goes on to state that it’s possible that we won’t see Vanguard this year.
Quoting their insider source, TheMW2Ghost writes “There’s nothing about [Vanguard] that would make it a good release this year.”
But as for what’s coming in its place, the leaker has heard some rumors. Apparently, Activision may be considering a revamp for Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 2019.
New Modern Warfare 2019 Content Coming?
If this is true, it explains why this Modern Warfare Season 7 content never did get released despite being in the game files. Perhaps the new content drop will come with Modern Warfare’s new season towards the end of the year.
TheMW2Ghost reveals “There’s so much unreleased & potentially saved for [Modern Warfare 2]. And, of course, [Cold War] at the front and center.”
In a recent interview, Activision actually confirms that it could support Black Ops Cold War for 4 years. And it looks like at least a second year may well be coming after all.
Modern Warfare fans will definitely be happy to see more support after recent months. Right now, many fans still believe that Black Ops Cold War is a downgrade from Modern Warfare, after all.
But we wonder how this stacks up against reports of a new WW2 Vanguard map dropping in 2022. We hope that, if the game does indeed see a delay, then Sledgehammer Games can take the time to make sure WW2 Vanguard isn’t held back by last-gen consoles.
After all, the new BATTLEFIELD reveal may suggest it’s a next-gen exclusive game. And it’ll be hard to compete with that while clinging to older hardware.
