Breath of the Wild's developers have confirmed that more news on the game's sequel will be coming later in 2021.
Fan excitement for Breath of the Wild has reached fever pitch recently.
With news of a Nintendo Direct around the corner, it was thought that Nintendo might share some new details about the Switch best-seller that could be coming with it.
There were even a lot of leaks that implied greater details about the game. One leak in particular offered a close BotW2 release date, and another offered info about potential Zelda remasters.
The latest Direct was a delight in itself, offering a big look into Nintendo's upcoming releases. Its mere existence was enough for some fans, as the last Direct conference took place in 2019.
Here's everything announced at the 50-minute February Nintendo Direct.
But, for fans of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, it wasn't all rosy.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2's Direct Disappointment
At the latter end of the Nintendo Direct, a surprise guest joined the conference.
Eiji Aonuma, producer of The Legend of Zelda series, appeared to speak with the audience directly. He offered insight into the new Zelda port, but he didn't bring all good news.
Aonuma announced that more Breath of the Wild 2 info would have to wait until later this year.
Here's his full statement;
"Hello there. I'm Eiji Aonuma, producer of The Legend of Zelda series. I'm sure a lot of you saw me and thought, 'Hey, will there finally be news about the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild?'
Sorry about that.
Development is proceeding smoothly, and we should be able to bring you some more information this year. For now, we'll have to ask you to wait just a bit longer."
Aonuma's words were sincere and earnest. It's clear that development is going well so far, and we'll be lucky to hear more about the game a little further down the line.
However, just knowing that development is going well is good enough for some fans. It's still coming, even if we have to wait a little while longer to learn more.
Breath of the Wild 2 info was high on fans' wishlists for tonight's direct, but at least we got some other great reveals.
The Direct offered some great info; it revealed the exciting new Zelda switch port, the newest Smash characters, and a long-awaited sequel in a Nintendo staple franchise.
Still, Breath of the Wild leaks are pouring out at the moment, and they're more than enough to keep us hyped.
