Black Ops Cold War Season 1 has a new launch date, and we finally get some much-needed details regarding what's to come.
It seems that Season 1 of Black Ops Cold War isn't ready just yet. Activision is therefore pushing back the launch of the game's first season pass at the last moment.
This comes alongside a delay to the new Cold War map for Warzone, which is still yet to be officially announced.
Fortunately, a range of new leaks have confirmed exactly what's coming to Black Ops Cold War Season 1. The leaks also went into detail about the new Rebirth Island map for Warzone, coming with the new update.
Now, a Call of Duty blog reveals more about what's new content is arriving with the upcoming Season 1 launch.
New Release Date for Black Ops Cold War Season 1
Although previously slated for a December 10 launch, Black Ops Cold War Season 1 will now drop on December 16. This is a wise move on Activision's part, as the initial launch date clashed with the release day of Cyberpunk 2077.
Now, Call of Duty has its chance to stand out without a major AAA title blowing up the internet. It also gives developers a chance to make sure the update is perfect at launch.
The blog post promises this is the largest free content drop in Black Ops history. This is sure to make fans happy, as Cold War's content has been a little barebones since launch.
New Cold War Multiplayer Content
Alongside the existing Black Ops Cold War Multiplayer content, Season 1 brings new maps, modes, and playlists to the fight. Treyarch also confirms the Black Ops series' classic map Raid will be making a return.
Alongside the remastered map comes "fan-favorite 6v6 modes and playlists." 2v2 Gunfight will also be returning, with four new maps to face off in.
On top of that, the notoriously buggy Fireteam: Dirty Bomb will soon be playable on Raid. Whether this is the map as we know it or a larger-scale version remains to be seen.
As ever, all-new weapons coming to Cold War Season 1 will be completely free-to-acquire. However, players will have to unlock each one through the new Black Ops and Warzone shared Seasonal Prestige system.
What's New in Cold War's Warzone?
As for the popular battle royale, Cold War is set to integrate with Warzone at Season 1's launch. There will be a new Warzone map and a new mode to play on it.
What's more, over 30 of Black Ops Cold War's weapons will be making the jump to Warzone, alongside Blueprint variants to unlock. Call of Duty content creators are going to have a field day with all the new potential videos.
And if you go down in the new Cold War Warzone, there's a brand-new Gulag experience to fight through. We don't know exactly what the developer has in mind, but we imagine you're still going to be taking on other players in the hopes of earning a second chance at survival.
Black Ops Cold War Season 1 Zombies Content
As for Black Ops Cold War Zombies, it's now confirmed that we're getting new Zombies modes instead of a new map. Although the leaked Vietnam map for Cold War Zombies will arrive at some point, it appears that it's not quite ready yet.
New evidence suggests that next up for Cold War Zombies could well be a survival version of Nacht Der Untoten before a full remake of Kino Der Toten comes to the game later on.
In the meantime, we'll have to keep working at discovering all the Easter eggs of Die Maschine.
More Double XP Events & Free Unlocks
After the disappointing issue-filled Double XP week that launched alongside Nuketown '84, Treyarch assures fans that more events are coming. The next Black Ops Cold War Double XP and Double Weapon XP event will commence on December 12 at 10 AM PT.
This bonus XP event will last through to the launch of Season 1. This should alleviate the complaints about Treyarch's broken weapon XP system.
Alongside free weapons in Season 1, players can even earn bonus rewards for logging in. Play Black Ops Cold War between December 8 - December 15 to earn the "Field Research" and "Certified" bundles.
These unlocks contain Epic skins for Operators Park and Garcia, alongside blueprints, reticles, and weapon charms.
With a little luck, Season 1 will be just what Black Ops Cold War needs to turn things around. Despite being hugely successful financially, the game is getting a lot of criticism from its fans.
However, this is just the beginning of the story for Cold War, and this new update will help Treyarch deliver on what we're sure it wants its game to be.
