In a new video analysis, we finally get to see whether Frag Grenades or Semtex is better in Black Ops Cold War.
Since launch, players have been comparing the standard Frag Grenades to its Semtex counterpart. With the two lethal equipments acting so similar, it’s hard to tell which one is definitively better.
Now, we have more information about how the two explosives work in Cold War. And using this, we can see the benefits of using both weapons in-game.
Frag vs Semtex in Black Ops Cold War
In a new video by TheXclusiveAce, the YouTuber breaks down the Frag vs Semtex debate, with some interesting findings.
While at first glance, the two pieces of lethal equipment appear very similar, there are some differences that make considering your loadout carefully worthwhile.
Which Lethal Equipment Does Higher Damage?
First off, both Cold War’s Frag Grenade and Semtex do have identical damage ranges of around 7 meters. However, the Frag Grenade will kill full health enemies in a radius of 6 meters, in comparison to Semtex’s 4 meters.
This wildly different range gives a Frag Grenade the edge in general, but both explosives are severely handicapped by how strong Flak Jacket is in Black Ops Cold War.
Which Cold War Grenade Is Faster?
When it comes to Black Ops Cold War, both the Semtex and Frag Grenade can be thrown the same exact distance. But in terms of speed, Semtex has the edge.
TheXclusiveAce calculates that your time spent without being able to use your gun is 684ms with Semtex, compared to 884ms with the Frag. Neither is terribly obstructive, due to Cold War’s ability to hip fire while throwing lethal equipment.
Cooking a Grenade in Black Ops Cold War
One big advantage of the Frag Grenade is that it can be cooked for a near-instant explosion. However, the Semtex can be held for an unlimited amount of time, as a tradeoff.
Also acting as a point to the Semtex is the time to detonate. Despite not being able to cook the lethal, the Semtex still boasts a much faster detonation time.
The Semtex is also used in the Black Ops Cold War Gung-Ho glitch, allowing players to shoot much faster than usual.
As a final point, it’s worth keeping in mind that Frag Grenades can also be thrown back at you, if you launch them without cooking. Meanwhile, a Semtex can literally stick an opponent for a guaranteed kill.
But, because a Frag Grenade can bounce and roll, players can use them in more interesting ways. At the end of the day, both have their advantages.
While both explosives are valid options, Black Ops Cold War’s best play of all time was actually from a Tomahawk user.
Recently, we’ve seen a new strange Black Ops Cold War glitch that teleports players across the map. And despite the newest update just dropping, Black Ops Cold War are reporting major lag spikes occurring more frequently.
