Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is making some big changes to its weapon roster ahead of release day, based on feedback from Beta players.
If you took part in the Black Ops 6 Open Beta, chances are you found the game enjoyable but with some room for improvement.
That appears to be the general consensus from Call of Duty fans, at least, and Activision is making a show of taking feedback on board. Already, the studio has confirmed that it is fixing spawns, making big changes to the Winner’s Circle, and even tweaking Omnimovement.
And now, Black Ops 6’s weapons are also seeing some major changes before launch.
All Changes to Black Ops 6 Weapons
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has a new Road to Launch blog post, in which Activision reveals all the changes that it’s making to the game’s weapon roster ahead of release day.
Here’s everything that has been announced so far:
Headshot Damage
In Black Ops 6, Treyarch intentionally made its weapons’ headshot damage low to maintain a more consistent time-to-kill (TTK).
However, based on Beta feedback, the developer is reconsidering its stance on headshots, as many players believe that hitting their enemies in such a key area is not impactful enough in Black Ops 6.

“We agree with these points and are working on adjustments to many weapons to reward players who land multiple headshots during an engagement,” Treyarch writes. “That said, we do not want hit location multipliers to significantly affect the consistency of time to kill in Black Ops 6”
The company promises to continue monitoring headshot effectiveness during ‘launch and beyond’ so we don’t expect too much to change by release day.
Bullet Penetration
If you, like many other fans, found bullet penetration to be a little inconsistent in Black Ops 6, you’ll be glad to know that Treyarch hears you.
In the Beta, players reported that they could be damaged through walls too frequently and that they would take too much damage when hit with Wall Bangs.
In other places it seemed like bullets should be able to penetrate a surface, such as the radar dish on Scud, only for that area to end up completely bullet-proof.

Thankfully, Treyarch assures fans that it is improving bullet penetration for launch, and players will notice fewer issues with the system.
Weapon Balance Patch
While Treyach already made some big changes to weapon balance in Beta Weekend 2, its work is far from over.
The developer shared with us a small selection of changes coming to guns on release day here:
- Improved Sniper ADS Fluidity
- Improved Weapon Swap Fluidity While Sprinting
- Reduced Weapon Motion While Crouching
- Small Shotgun Buff to Compete with SMG Dominance
- Targeted Adjustments Across All Weapons to Compete With SMGs
However, for the full list of patch notes, we’ll need to wait a little longer. We anticipate that Treyarch will reveal all changes coming to Black Ops 6 by mid-October, ahead of the title’s full launch next month.

Treyarch is still asking for fan feedback on the Black Ops 6 Beta here. If you want to see any specific changes by release day, be sure to let the team know!
