Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 just launched in Open Beta, and already fans are complaining about its abundance of small maps.
When it comes to Call of Duty, maps of all sizes have their place. After all, variety is what encourages players to try out new loadouts, or work tactically with their team to succeed.
But it seems that a large percentage of COD fans simply prefer to shut their brains off and run and gun, as smaller maps like Rust, Shipment, and Nuketown are constantly demanded by the player base.
Perhaps that’s why Treyarch saw fit to add so many tiny maps to the Black Ops 6 Open Beta. But whatever the case, it hasn’t gone down well.
Black Ops 6 Players Want Larger Maps
The Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Open Beta has barely kicked off, and fans already have a bone to pick with Treyarch regarding map sizes.
In the Open Beta, Black Ops 6 has replaced the Scud map with Babylon, a close-quarters map that (in spite of its setting) appears reminiscent of Shipment.
As such, only Skyline, Derelict, and Rewind remain as ‘medium-size’ maps, and the final map in the list is the only one that could be considered medium-large.
Meanwhile, in the Face Off playlist, users can battle it out on tiny maps such as Pit and Gala.
And since another tiny map, Stakeout, set in little more than a single apartment, is dropping soon, the Beta is certainly overrun with smaller arenas.
What’s more, with the recent buff to movement speed in Black Ops 6, small locations now feel even smaller, as players are capable of traversing an entire map in seconds.
The good news is that this may all change when launch rolls around. After all, the Omnimovement training map present in the Beta is actually a 6v6 map called Protocol, and it appears significantly larger than most Beta maps.
By all accounts, most of the other Black Ops 6 Multiplayer launch maps appear to be a decent size. Perhaps Treyarch just wanted fans to have some fast and attention-holding action in its Black Ops 6 Beta.
On top of that, as the developer continues to adjust its spawn system, something Treyarch has been working on based on Beta feedback, players should start spawning further away from enemies.
This is certain to help maps feel less cramped and chaotic, as it’ll take a few extra seconds to get back into the action.
