The Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Beta brought with it more than a few tiny arenas, but Treyarch reassures us that we just haven’t seen everything the game has to offer.
The Black Ops 6 Beta has come to an end, and reception to the online Multiplayer experience was relatively mixed.
There were certainly some highlights to enjoy, such as the tight gunplay, varied game modes, and our first look at the potentially overpowered Omnimovement.
However, players had more than a few complaints about the Black Ops 6 Beta.
And topping most people’s lists, especially in Beta weekend 2, was the abundance of small maps.
More Medium-Size Maps Coming to Black Ops 6
In response to player complaints, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 developer Treyarch has taken to social media to confirm the presence of more medium-sized maps coming on day one.
“For those curious about our map size variety at launch: the majority of #BlackOps6’s Core 6v6 maps are medium-sized, similar in size to Raid or Summit,” a post to Treyarch Studios’ official X account reads.
Although the Black Ops 6 Beta had a variety of maps on offer, more than a few of them were very small arenas.

This was especially true when early access concluded, and the developer replaced the medium-size Scud with the extremely small Babylon map.
Now, Treyarch is revealing that many of its launch maps are going to be larger experiences.
But, at the same time, the developer has admitted that half of its release day maps are actually smaller arenas.
Here’s the full list of Black Ops 6 launch maps, and their overall sizing:
- Vault – Medium
- Protocol – Medium
- Lowtown – Medium
- Red Card – Medium
- Vorkuta – Medium
- Skyline – Medium
- Rewind – Medium
- Scud – Medium
- Subsonic – Small
- Payback – Small
- Babylon – Small
- Derelict – Small
- Warhead – Strike
- Pit – Strike
- Gala – Strike
- Stakeout – Strike
Treyarch isn’t technically inaccurate when it says that the majority of Core 6v6 maps are medium-sized. In fact, there are eight medium maps and only four small ones in regular playlists.
However, with the addition of four Strike Maps, special arenas set up for both 2v2 and Face Off playlists, the split between overall small and medium launch maps is actually 50/50.
What’s interesting is that Treyarch has used the name ‘Warhead’ on this map list, despite previously referring to the map as Sandhouse:

Given that Sandhouse appears to be a post-detonation variant of Nuketown, we imagine that the map’s name has changed somewhere down the line.
