A huge leak has dropped today regarding Battlefield 2018. Just a week ago we covered an article suggesting World War 2 was a credible setting and it turns out it’s true.
According to the report, Battlefield 2018 will be called Battlefield V. It was internally called Battlefield 2 as a working title at EA but they recently changed it to Battlefield V. Now they’re going back to World War 2 for the first time since Battlefield 1943 in 2009.
Whilst we believe the report of Battlefield V to be true. The ‘leaked’ image on Reddit is less likely to be real. After a close look it appears to be photoshopped and doesn’t really suit the World War 2 theme particularly well. We cannot be sure on the origin of this image though.
The original author of the VentureBeat report Jeffrey Grubb confirmed on Twitter that he had wrote the article before seeing this leaked image. This is important because although the image is most likely fake, his report adds up.
Battlefield V Details
It is claimed to be an entirely new game and not a remaster of the 2005 Battlefield 2. The previous title Battlefield 1 was based in WW1 and sales performed extremely well. It had over 25 million players and out-performed previous titles in the series.
Moving into World War 2 makes sense with the current Battlefield timeline. There’s a 21 year gap between the end of WW1 and the start of WW2 and were very different wars. Significant technological advances were made in machinery, weaponry and communication which could play out in an interesting campaign and multiplayer.
A hot topic at the moment is whether Battle Royale will be included in Battlefield V. This could be an interesting combination given Battlefield maps are already large and the servers can handle a large amount of players at once.
