Battlefield 2042 players have accused the new game mode Hazard Zone of being “already dead” – but is it really?
One of the headline new features of Battlefield 2042 (according to DICE at least) was the inventive Hazard Zone game mode. Bringing higher-stakes gameplay in a different way to Battle Royale, plenty expected Hazard Zone to be the next big thing.
The Hazard Zone reveal trailer made the mode look great, but it didn’t exactly catch the attention of players when Battlefield 2042 launched.
In fact, many players are calling the game mode “dead” already. But why do they think that?
Is Battlefield 2042 Hazard Zone Dead?
Many fans have been requesting refunds for Battlefield 2042 following the game’s disappointing launch. It seems like Hazard Zone has been hit the hardest by the bad feelings towards the game.
A new post by u/Dull-Caterpillar3153 on the Battlefield 2042 subreddit asks the question: Is Hazard Zone already dead? Unfortunately, it looks like it could be.
The poster claims that they couldn’t find a game of Hazard Zone when searching for 15 minutes. They thought it could be a matchmaking bug, but the players in the replies tell another story.
Many players in the replies claim that they have only played Hazard Zone once and then “never touched it again”. This is despite all of the Battlefield 2042 Conquest maps being way too big.
This explains why it was so difficult to find a game. If nobody is playing it, then the game won’t be able to matchmake properly.
Maybe if Hazard Zone was free-to-play, like fans wanted, then more people would be playing it.
Unless this changes and more people select to play the mode, Hazard Zone could be dead already. Let’s hope that DICE has a plan to save the game more before everyone loses interest.
With DICE delaying the Battlefield 2042 content update to fix critical issues, who knows whether Hazard Zone will get the extra features and tweaks it needs to succeed in time?
Meanwhile, the latest Battlefield 2042 patch had fixes for hit registration and a hovercraft nerf. Although, the game still needs plenty more fixes to be in a good state.
What’s more, the hit registration in Battlefield 2042 still seems to be broken, even after the update. It looks like even more fixes will have to come in the near future.
