But it seems there’s one leak that isn’t coming true where the new game mode is concerned. Previously we had heard that Battlefield 2042’s Hazard Zone would be free-to-play, just like Warzone was to Modern Warfare.

Unfortunately, it appears this is not the case, and fans aren’t happy about it.

Battlefield 2042: Hazard Zone Isn’t Free to Play

Despite early reports suggesting that Battlefield 2042 would have free-to-play elements, it seems that this isn’t the case – at least with Hazard Zone.

After yesterday’s official reveal, many fans were hoping for the announcement that Hazard Zone would be free at launch. When it didn’t arrive, it didn’t take long for many gamers and influencers to reveal their displeasure.

It does seem like Hazard Zone would be the kind of game mode to benefit from being free-to-play. After all, the mode could help draw in players to the full-priced title and attract the same type of attention as a Battle Royale element.

Many fans believe that Hazard Zone will suffer a similar fate to Battlefield 5’s Firestorm mode which ended up being a flop for EA.

However, there are also advantages to keeping the mode locked behind a paywall. After all, Warzone is currently overrun by cheaters in Season 6.

And new reports suggest that even the Warzone’s new anti-cheat might be compromised before launch!

Making Hazard Zone a core game mode in Battlefield 2042 rather than a free-to-play element will ensure that the mode has fewer cheaters. And since only 2 teams can extract successfully, it’s important that the mode doesn’t get ruined by those with unfair advantages.

However, it seems that Battlefield 2042 cheats are available already, despite the game being a few weeks away from release.

That said, Battlefield 2042 fans are also demanding another delay to get the game as ready as possible. But if EA won’t listen to the calls for Hazard Zone to become free-to-play, we wouldn’t hold out hope for a delay either.

But some elements of the game really are changing before launch. Here are all the improvements that are confirmed to come to Battlefield 2042 in its launch build.
