All PlayStation 5 Launch Day Sales Will Be Online Only

According to a new statement by Sony, all PlayStation 5 launch day sales will be online only.

If you’re looking to get your hands on a PlayStation 5 on launch day, there’s only one way to go about it. No matter where in the world you’re buying from, all PlayStation 5 purchases will be made online.

Eager fans were likely already planning their camp out or early start at their retailer of choice, but these plans would be in vain. Now, Sony confirms that it’s taking measures to protect gamers and staff alike from COVID-19.

Unfortunately, the announcement means that those hoping to get their hands on a next-gen console in-store are out of luck.

PlayStation 5 Launch Day Purchases Must Be Made Online

That means there will be no PlayStation 5 consoles in-store to find, anywhere in the world. It’s always possible that some retailers will have a unit or two, but major stores will certainly endeavor to follow Sony’s advice on this one.

According to a new PlayStation Blog, the gaming company confirms that PS5s will be selling online exclusively with all its retail partners. Therefore, no units will be present on any store shelves, as the company advises players to stay safe and place orders from home.

Those gamers who have a PlayStation 5 pre-order will still be able to pick-up the console at their local retailer. Most major stores now have an appointment system to ensure that the process goes as smoothly and safely as possible.

Due to the current global pandemic, it’s no surprise that Sony is putting these measures in place. What is a shock is that the company is only announcing it now.

After all, the launch of the PlayStation 5 is only a week away in many regions. It’s definitely a move that will keep gamers from flooding stores, though, and a wise one to make under the current climate.

Those who have a Target retailer nearby may still be getting their PS5 on day one, however. Thanks to a new ad, we know Target’s plans for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S launch day.

If you’re looking to pick up some new titles with your PlayStation 5, it’s already possible to save money. This store is already selling PS5 games on a ‘Buy Two, Get One Free’ offer.
